Bell to add six new HD Channels on June 10th

I have put a call into the media relations people about the missing channels. Will report back when I hear back from them.

The subscribers of course always pay. To stay in business BellTV will have to address their bandwidth problem, and eventually convert to all hd. They can't have two versions (hd and sd) of the same channel forever. As current sd receivers in use fail, they should be replaced with cheap basic hd receivers costing no more than the former sd receivers. Don't give people the option of buying new sd receivers.

Sorry for being off topic.

What I meant was Bell does not have to pay each month or each year for these mostly useless local HD channels. Carrying CNNHD or SpeedHD means they have to pay a fee over and above their transmission costs.

^^^ Problem is SD channels take significantly less bandwidth to transmit. Removing those 3 SD channels would only create room for 1 of those HD channels.

I agree that eventually we will be going HD only but you are talking like it will happen in the next year or two. This is really 10 to 20 years down the road.

Humm, wonder are the networks going to want to change us for both the local SD & HD channels in their savelocal? What a waste of bandwidth, really would like more appealing channels than more HD simsub channels.

Why do we need more CTV's and CBC's? How about Food HD and HGTV HD like they have in the USA!

The channels will appear here :
872 SRC Ottawa HD
896 CBC Montreal HD
897 Sun TV HD
899 Global Calgary HD
900 CTV Calgary HD
864 TV5HD

Umm.. Yay for more time shifting options? Its funny that these get a big announcement and they impact very few but something like Golf HD got ninja added with hardly a mention. Guess they're hurting for some PR or something.

If you deduct all the time shifting and redundant channels how many actual dedicated HD channels would you say they really have?

Good news for those that are in those areas who didn't have thier local version of the channel in HD previously but for everybody else its nothing worth getting excited about.

What a friggin waste of bandwidth Bell, and for what? Bragging rights?
Who gives a damn about more redundant channels. Why not add another 50 or 60 HD PPVs while you at it. :(

Lots of posts deleted.

Please review Post #1 and the subject of this thread before posting.

Next poster who posts about Golf HD in this thread will be issued an infraction.

I assume they will be delivered using the same criteria as now, so everyone will see them. I also assume they'll be using 8PSK to deliver this set, and it will be interesting to see how many get crammed onto one transponder. We also don't know what, if any, will be in the "free HD" package.

P.S. I'm trying hard not to be negative, but not one of these channels interest me. I'd rather have CNN HD, or even Newsworld HD.

I wanted to check out an episode of Supernatural in HD so I recorded this Thursday's episode but the picture only filled the center of the screen with a black bars all around the outside 1/3. Does anyone know what's up with that?

I thought I would get GolfHD if I already had the 416 normal Golf Channel.

But it seems gone now. So I have to upgrade all my programming to the new structure and then buy "More HD Sports"? How much is that? Or 4 HD themes for $10?

My bill says I have "HD Value Pack" and TSN HD and RSN HD but I don't see a value pack on the website so I must be on some old structure and upgrading will probably cost me way more per month.

I don't understand Bell's pricing.. this is horrible.
