Yea, I waited until bell came out with the 9200 (Didnt want to get stuck with a 6100, as I suspected/heard rumours of the 9200 coming to bell)
We had our HDTV for around a year, till we got a STB (Still waiting to get a HD DVD!!!)

How things have changed;

Quote from Post #37:

The most amazing thing is this story by Media in Canada and I quote,
http://www.mediaincanada.com/articles/mic/20070821/expressvu.html

A helicopter hovered overhead, Jet Ski commandos roared up to Bell's black booth, and what Pat Button, Bell ExpressVu VP marketing, calls a "CIA-esque" security force handled crowd control.

Well that was back on August 21st.

Now the same link has a different story........
http://www.mediaincanada.com/articles/mic/20070821/expressvu.html

Bad weather curtailed some the Mission Impossible-style activities that are planned for each stop on the tour. A helicopter was to have hovered overhead, and Jet Ski commandos were to have roared up to Bell's booth.

I wonder how that happened.......

Do we think Express Vu asked them to tell the truth.???

I have lots of friends that have HDTV but only one of them has HD receiver , most of them bought plasma or LCD just because it is in style now and it looks good in the family room.

Full HD? It's deceptive. I have half a mind to attend to spread the "get anything BUT Bell message."
Maybe they're planning an "excellent customer service" campaign for fall?

Actually, I'll say this - some of the SD programming on BEV has been spectacular lately. For example, I'm watching Mythbusters right now, and it looks pretty damn good compared to my old MTS feed.

I am embarassed to admit that after purchasing my new TV I actually held off ordering HD service because I figured Bell would come through with some kind of pricing promotion for existing subs today as part of this "event". Now I really don't know what to do...football & hockey seasons getting so close. I guess I'll rent the 9200?

Lost your job to "Chinese immigrants"? Boo-freaking-hoo. Sorry, I just had to point that bit out and say if you lost your job to someone else who is more qualified, who cares what country they came from?

That little comment will flavour anything else you post that I read.

To stay on topic - this is just an expensive PR tour to get people who are buying TVs to associate BEV with HD service, period. No other benefit to the consumer.

Then maybe it's a satellite thing. I just can't imagine "a majority" of Canadians in 2007 spending $1500+ on an HDTV and deliberately not attaching an HD signal to it.

Why on earth spend all that money?!? What exactly are people doing with the grey bars on the side of the image? How many people buy refrigerators without plugging it in hoping the milk won't go sour overnight?

Here's hoping they introduce a new upgrade promo for existing customers at the same time - the migration to full HD is alot more attractive with a trade-up deal on receivers or a few free months of hardware rental.

Apparently! Media In Canada (MIC) also states in their article that the Consumer Electronic Manufacturers Association reported last week that 6.5 million homes have HD which is NOT what CEMA says.

I suspect that what was written by MIC was from a press release that was written prior to the show.

Remember to be careful of what you read on the internet!

Nope not visible in one of those shots but I was actually inside the trailer when one piece was shot as I recognize a guy I was standing beside.

I guess you copied the wrong post it was bev fan that made the remark about chinese ( post # 98)the other fellow just commented on it You gotta be careful who you freaking boo hoo.

As was said before Full Hd is a market ploy. Expressvu is marketing their product. I'm going to wait for "Full HD Plus".

As a matter of fact they were better qualified by their education. OTOH, their communications and interpersonal skills with Canadian workers often leave a lot to be desired. China and India turn out so many engineers a year that they can flood the Canadian market with cheap labour anytime the Canadian government wants to let them in. Companies often have no problem hiring immigrants over Canadians due to poor enforcement of government regulations.

I have no problem with hiring immigrants if the position requires it. What often happens is that companies fill less skilled positions with overqualified immigrants by misrepresenting the qualifications for the job. They would rather have someone who will work for low wages and won't switch jobs due to their tenuous position in Canada.

Mozza - Before you boo-hoo anyone, take a frequent look around and see where your industry is going. Most companies don't care about people anymore, just where they can save a buck. It's the companies I have a problem with, not the people.

Wow, thats a pretty pathetic PR event, sort of indicative of EV as a company.
It will be interesting to see the numbers for next quarter after Bell's ambitious PR events and Shaw's aggressive PVR swap.....I wonder which event is more enticing.

Maybe they should send those guys to fix Nimiq1 and Nimiq2. That's the real issue facing EV. I guess EV figures BS baffles potential HD customers.

I know about of about 12 people where I live that have HD sets and only 1 besides myself have HD programming. In fact, most of them bought HD sets to make thier dvd movies look better or bought hddvd/bluray players and have no intention of getting HD programming in the near future.
