Bell ExpressVu Retentions?

being aware of the standard runaround, called today to advise that the Source gave me a free Star Choice HD receiver with the purchase of a new flat screen TV at Christmas.

*click*--> Retention Dept.

New PVRs are $499. I have to hit a store, buy a PVR less the $100 discount. Bell offers to giver me 2 months free HDTV, + a $70 bill credit. Up to $99 credit when I fax in the installation bill.

But: I must purchase a 21 switch and an LNBF (dish arm I'm told). (as I live outside of a Bell service area, they won't send an installer).

I'm no expert on new connections but had a much better understanding of my needs than the poor CSR.

At any rate, total discount = ~ $250.00

But only after I threatened to leave.

Hope this helps, Jim

I canceled my service 2 weeks ago... got a retention offer but haven't had a follow up call asking for me to stay. When should I expect a better offer? (at 3 weeks?)

Was considering SaskTel Max because of an additional HD receiver and a lesser monthly fee. Bell is giving me a 6141 for 24 months, free install and 20% for 12 months off of my current bill. Overall I'm happy.

All the compagnies got price increased lately... Bell ain't no better than the other ones on that!

That means he works for EV or Bell (or certain EV sub contracted compagnies) and gets a discount since he is an employe (or retired from Bell)

Told them I was thinking about going to SHAW since they were offering a FREE HDPVR with no contract. Plus NFL Sunday ticket is much cheaper @ Shaw.

Result
Got 30% off bill for 12 months and $100 off a 9242 HD PVR. Basically with my program package that works out to be about $378 off my bill before taxes for 12 months

Saved from receiver $112 taxes included
Saved from programming $424 taxes included.

Total savings
$536 dollars.

Happy camper here. Well sort of.........I get to watch my Dolphins lose in HD but at cheaper cost.

Cheers!

The EV cancellation and Rogers order were in for the end of the month. Changed my mind after retentions called. I was starting to have second thoughts (due to Rogers new compression plans) but would have gone through with it if retentions hadn't called. It looks like EV retentions is now backing out on their promise to upgrade my receivers. I am not happy about that.

You paid $500 to bell for a hdpvr which would have been free with shaw, at least $36 more for nfl ticket, your a dolphin fan and dont forget you pay 30% more next year. How do you figure cheaper? :)

I got "the call" as well. I was not home at the time. I wonder if they will match Rogers? That is three free PVRs for 2 years and all English language programming packages (excluding SC) for $83/mo for 1 year and $96/mo after. In EV's case I would be looking for a refund of the purchase price for my current equipment and replacement with rentals. ;)

The only disconnection calls that won't be transferred to retention is when a client is in the USA and uses Bell Express Vu. In that case the client will get transferred to SAT and they will terminate the account right away if there is only one receiver

Phoned today to complain about ever increasing prices, the loss of Showcase HD, and to potentially cancel my Satellite TV. After the expected offers, I ended up just accepting 30% off my bill for a year. I probably could have got a little more, but I had to get supper going! It will save me a little over $400 smackos this year with a simple 10 minute phone call.

I also had an offer from Rogers to ditch my dish. A free HDPVR for 2 years and free regular terminals for the other 2 TVs in my home (I would have traded 1 3100, 1 2700 and 1 4700).

I phoned Bell to get them to match and they said they would give me a free 9242 for 1 year, or 50% off either 9242 or their 6141 receiver plus free installation. I managed to get another $100 credit with my free HD receiver, because she told me that the installation was "free" but then when she told me the total, she added there was a $75 charge for the installation.

So, after all was said and done, I got a HD PVR for 50% off, free installation and a $25 credit. Probably not as good as some offers here, but I was happy with it.

I guess all things considered, most installers charge $75-100 to install the dish, added the cost of an HD PVR is $600. So, you will save some money going this route.

I'm pretty pissed with Shaw and their ongoing sound drop outs in every channel; I got a swapped HD PVR from them; called Bell and asked for a similar offer to stay with them...
They offered me the latest new HD PVR installed and free for a year. As I only have 6 months with them... I accepted. Goodbye SHAW!

But is Bell's retention department 24/7? If not, I think that's a pretty foolish system. "I know you're moving to China, and that the account holder recently died, but would a 20% discount persuade you to stay?" Heh.

This is illegal. The CRTC states that if a provider is told that a customer has an appointment with another provider, you are not allowed to offer any incentives to change their mind, or otherwise interfere with that appointment.

You seem to make a lot of generalizations about other companies doing the same thing but it just ain't true in all cases.

I just spoke with another tech agent and was told that my options were to buy a new 6100 or 6141 for $299 or buy a refurbished unit for $149. I could also rent a 6100 or 6141 for $10 per month for a 1 year contract. He said my 6100 did not have to be returned. The first agent I spoke to obviously didn't know what she was talking about since she did tell me I would have to return my unit while paying the $149 for a refurb.
As Haystack mentioned, I too had to have my receivers "hit" from an agent since neither were originally working after my account was off suspension. So this is why I am thinking this problem was from their end. I didn't think my receiver was broken as suggested by Ex Agent EV when it was put on suspension. It seems a little coincidental that I never had a problem, put it on suspension and then after this "hit" it didn't work anymore.
