Tell them the cable company offered you a free HD PVR for a year, and some free HD programming to try out HD. They should match with a Free HD PVR, and Free 6 months HD Programming.

Every 9200/9242 or 9241 sold gives the customer the right to an SW44 at NO EXTRA COST. You can also get a Free installation if you have no programming from the 82 degree bird. I know you have no local installer but you will get the refund as promised.

If you really wanted a Bell HD PVR you could buy it on-line, lots of retailers stock them.

Agent I wonder what expressvu would do if you were just in a coma, you were only brain dead but you had more than thirty days to live. Would they need a letter from your doctor or would one from your lawyer be OK. Or could you only close the account if you died.

I recently moved in to my new place, transferring home to Ottawa after 7 years in the middle of nowhere. I had Evu out west, but no other Bell services. They screwed up my initial phone install 9 hour "window", and did not actually schedule a tech to come, and did not call me to cancel. I finally got my phone after another week, then my modem another week later. The phone tech appointment was narrowed down to a one hour window, the most I would agree to given one wasted day. Evu, surprisingly, was most on the ball installing the day after I called, doing everything as asked and very well, and within the four hour window.

When I complained to Bell about the phone FUBAR (it was far more involved than the brief play by play above), they offered me a $50 credit and a month free internet. I turned them down. Then $100 and three months free inet. Still not enough for the 9 hours of my time waiting for an appointment they never intended to keep. Then EVU, the only division that got it right, threw in two months free, another $150 roughly. So, to keep me as a customer for the three services, they gave me about $330 worth of credits, or about 3 months free for all.

The screwup was a bit more than many have to deal with, trust me, but they are willing to go pretty far to retain their customers in terms of credits.

Without the retention dept TV subscription is too expensive. I see an antenna in my future.

Hey
What good would a free rental expressvu receiver for a year be without a subscription to expressvu.

There is always a one year subscription for a rental, but... you are getting the rental free for a year; so when the time to pay for rent comes up, you just return it and buy yourself the latest and greatest HD PVR of the time or get another deal from BELL(as you will have no contract).

does rogers digital cable offer the same chinese channels?

if they are the same, why not simply ask if they will match the price somehow, rather than switch everything over.

Rogers probably has much more selection in chinese programming (as with all thing multicultural at Rogers). There are at least 30 channels Rogers has in this space that Bell doesn't offer. If Bell doesn't carry the channels you want, this is definitely a deal breaker.

Rogers also has significant chinese content On Demand including TVB weekly series.

However on pricing, more or less, Rogers and Bell are competitive. Just be sure you are in an area in Ontario which offers the channels you are seeking. As a new Rogers customers, leaving Bell, there may be some very deep discounts for an initial period as well.

But the channels are the thing, I would think, if it's chinese channels you are looking for.

Companies such as Bell don't make a lot of money off of most customers.

Typically 20% of the customers provide 80% of the profits. I don't know what the %'s are for Bell ExpressVu but I'll bet that those %'s are close to being true across all Bell products.

Unless you are bringing Bell in a lot of money (and profits) each month, they may feel that its not worth offering you any deal to stay.

For example: If you are signed up for a Bell Bundle (voice, data, wireless and video) or your ExpressVU bill is north of $100 a month then you might have a shot at getting a sweeter deal but if you're not then ,you are probably not a very profitable customers for them and unlikely to get any special offer.

So they offered to sell you a 9242 for 150 and include a free month of HD? Did that include free install?

Throw in free install and that's the kind of offer I couldn't refuse!

I love how the OP started a 2 and a half year old thread with 17 pages of discussion....and he only posted once ever and disappeared.

further to my post # 261. they called me. i kept emailing them telling I would not call bell and they can accept my instructions via email. i kept getting the friendly reply telling me they cannot do that and please call. I kept at it and emailed the addy that someone posted in a much earlier post. something about [email protected] iirc. anyhow last night i told them i did give 30 days notice via email. i also told them i would not call and would send a fax confirmation and copies of emails to visa as evidence that i had cancelled and ask for a chargeback. i get the friendly reply telling me they cannot accept me cancelling via email.

so what i did is googled bce and up comes corporate governence people from the president on down. i emailed everyone of them in one shot. and told them to accept my instructions and deal with it now. haha they called me within 15 minutes and offered up an hdpvr for 199.00 plus 40% off the bill for a year.

I said no as shaw was offering me a free hdpvr on a 6 month deal. and unless they beat it no deal. they said they couldn't do that. so i said no problemo. if i don't like shaw i'll sell the hdpvr and use the cash to pay for a 199.00 bell hdpvr. Ed

Phoned last week and mentioned the card the local cable company put in
our mailbox. Pointed out I could get everything EV was giving me plus my
Internet access for the same price.

Got 40% off/month for 1 year. ;)

FaxCap

I'll call when I want to upgrade to HD later this year. I can't believe that they treat potential customers better than customers they have had for years. The current deal for new customers is $400 off an 9242 and free install, so I 'll expect at least that much.

I would imagine that, if you were in a coma, your lawyer would be at your house watching your TV.

Bad lawyer joke from a lawyer's son.

Maybe it's my ignorance but my understanding is that there are true Free To Air options available. I wasn't threatening to steal, that's for sure.

Moot anyway. I'm just annoyed that my rate bumps $20 a month after my promotions end (due to rate increases that occurred while I was locked into my rental contract). That's a 35% increase in my case!

Well after calling retentions and asking for a deal to stay, I was told they had no retention offers and thanks for your business, after indicating I knew people who were offered % discounts on services, I was finally offered 10% off the TV bill for 12 months which I declined, up to 20% which I declined and asked for 30% off for 12 months which they finally agreed to with no contract obligations. I know some people got 40% off but I didn't feel like negotiating anymore and my bill has now basically been cut in half after removing a rental PVR I had. All in all I think I did ok.
