Being FARCE in a murder mystery play?

I am currently in rehearsal for a murder mystery style play. My character is a rich, snooty, bitchy type. The play is set in the 20s-30s era. It has a detective and I end up being the murderer at the end of it all. My problem is my director talked about being Farce .. and I'm not sure what that means. I've had people tell me its a style of comedy, people tell me its about being over the top and melodramatic.. so I'm really confused about being farce AND being a bitch. Does anyone have any examples (video, plays, characters) or a definition of what FARCE is? thanks!
