I occasionally get nervous and am unable to be open and comfortable with groups of people but when it comes to talking to people individually I find it less daunting. Can some one help me with some advice I can use or steps I can take to overcome my anxiety?

I would suggest, if you really want to overcome this problem for good, and get to the core of the problem, that you did psychotherapy. There are visualizing techniques you can use, and you can also try to move from "one-on-one" contact with people, to "one-on-two" until you are really comfy there, and then go on to meeting with three people at the time etc, but to be really effective, try and consider professional help. I do not know how it is where you are from, but the truth is that psychotherapy is not only for "crazy people"... it is for anyone trying to know themselves better and resolve problems in their lives.
Good luck

Occasional hiccups doesn't warrant any serious treatment. Basically you are ok with individuals and hence with little try you should overcome your problem. Try attending some public speaking course. They help to improve your posture, your talk as well as how to get the attention of the audience etc. Combined with this for the start you concentrate on one or two person in a group and talk. This way you overcome your problem slowly and steadily. A little effort from your part can solve this problem. Good luck.

be close to those persons so that you can know them better and hangout with them as groups...
