being a science teacher with animal science degree?

Could a person with a B.S. in Animal Science be a middle school science teacher? The job description usually requires a degree in 'a science related field', and gives examples like chemistry, biology, etc.

Not sure if Animal Science quite counts as a regular science degree. Anyone know?
