So I am looking for somewhat of a communter bike and basically a bike to run around in. With my height 6'7" and weight 215 I know that I need a mountain bike, plus I would like the versitility of it. As of right now Im looking at a KHS Alite 300......for 195 bucks.....what do you guys think?

I think it will work for you although it has lower end components that will last for a time, make sure you are purchasing it from a bike specific store so you get some kind of service plan to go with the bike. Here is another one that is a commuter:http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=26104&subcategory_ID=3060 and will be a better choice for the type of ridding you do and you likely need a XL frame size. You don't seem heavy for your height so that will not be an issue no matter what brand you ultimately end up with. I recommend the GT bike to all of the "larger" riders I encounter. There are many brands to choose from out there, don't let Price be the #1 denominator in choosing a bike for your commute! Bob A is correct in saying you do not want a mtn bike for your commuting, it will be cumbersome on you and the GT will give you the versatility you require too!

A mountain bike makes a poor commuter bike. Go to the local bike shop and look at the hybrids, they are much more efficient..

KHS bike are a good brand i know a few fellas that are sponsored by them and they really like the company but the bike you are looking for are most likely gonna be hybrids like the others were talking about but for a good beginner mountain bike i would go with any cheap but sturdy bike because personally i did a lot of high speed crashes when i was a beginner and i tore the bike up which was alright cause it was only a target MTB!

hybrids suck! go mtn just change out tires at shop for less aggressive tread. you can change components as they wear out. just learn to maintain it properly. get a maintenance manual. it'll save you headaches later. buy from a shop they will be able to change small things to fit you better, like stem rise & length hdlbar flat or riser. and you also get the services offered with new bikes. like re-adjustments within first 30 days.

I there's a KHS Alite 300 with 23 size well go on, but yes i agree with them that better look for a hybrid bike that will fit your height.
