i heard that the other day....and today the passing of another actor.....ossie davis...primarily known from his work in the mini series "roots" and for his work with spike lee in 'jungle fever' and 'do the right thing'....
full story here....

Wow hard to believe ol' Rodneys Dead. But at 82 years old he lived a long and sucessful life...

He truly was one of the greats... And even through all the personal sh*t he went through with his many wives and messy divorces...

He loved his kids and would do anything for them.

That says a lot about his character because too often kids are the "silent victims" when high profile actors and actresses get married one minute and then divorced the next... And often the kids are left feeling it is their fault and turn out "screwed up" when they get older.

In addition, one of the roles that hasn't been mentioned here is his role as Colonel Wlater E. Kurtz in "Apocalypse Now" -- A retelling of Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" set in surreal Vietnam.

This is one of the roles that NO ONE but him could possibly ever play in my opinion and it is one of the best roles that show how trusting your instincts as an actor pays off as half of the scenes that ended up in the film were completely ad-libbed by Brando and Martin Sheen on set.

It was a shock. But I know I speak for all of us that the memories we have of 'Superman' will live on forever.

I know! Heath and Brad are on my mind constantly. I wake up and I feel sad, then it's to get through the day without being down. How will their family and friends move on when I'm only a fan and I can't believe it, I don't want to accept it and I'm 24/7 thinking about it. It's awful. :(

Wow, RIP Christian Brando. :(

Totally a chilling year 2008 has been so far.

Heard this on the news yesterday :( Rodney was a great comedian.

My condolences to his family and friends.

I was really shocked when I heard the news:(. He was such a strong, and wounderful man, such an inspiration to everyone. My condolences to his family and friends.

I agree. His book had pictures of him as a teen, and when I read it in high school, I looked around all my male classmates and said, "NONE OF YOU LOOK LIKE THIS!! :bawl:"

I found out this morning and I was shocked. That is so sad. My prayers and thoughts are with his friends and family. May he rest in peace.

This news came as such a shock, because I thought he was doing okay and making such progress with his spinal cord injury. Now all of the sudden he's gone.

I heard on a news program that his widow released a statement saying thank you to all the fans who loved and supported him over the years.

was that John Lennon was inspired after hearing Marlon Brando in "The Wild Ones" going "Johnny, all the beetles missed ya!"

RIP to a great actor and legend.

he was hot and had a hot body when he first came out..in a streetcar named desire.WOW!!! WHAT A BOD!

How awful. I am honestly shocked, I had no idea till now! So sad. It's really weird to think that he's dead. Just reading the title gave me a little jolt.

He was a great comedian and he will be missed by many. RIP Rodney.

Has anyone seen Meet Wally Sparks? I loooove him in that. So funny. I was thinking of buying it on dvd and now I definitely have to get it. I also loved him in Ladybugs, that movie brings back memories of middle school sleepovers for me.

wow all of these amazing actors passing away. This has not been a great year so far. Ugh, I just keep thinking about Heath. And its terrible about Brad Renfro. I hear he was an amazing actor.
