Beautiful Moments of Direction

I'm not talking Oscar nominated films or major directing credentials, but those moments in your average film which stand out above the rest and send a shiver down the spine.

For me, I can't stop watching a beautiful scene from 'Once Upon A Time in the MidlanRAB' directed by Shane Meadows. It's chapter 6 on the DVD where Robbie Carlyle is sat staring mournfully into space facing the banRABtand in the park and the camera pans around the elderly couples dancing on the stand, then cuts to Robbies face - such angst and lament for a lost love, set against the composure and mellow maturity of one's later years. John Lunn's music is the icing on the cake. Stunning work in a good British film.

Last scene of 'Saturday Night, Sunday Morning', with Albert Finney and fiance, sitting looking at the housing estate.

All of 'A Ma Souer', 'Cabaret', 'All that Jazz', 'The Shawshank Redemption' and 'Fight Club'. There are many other films, and indvidual moments.

You have to watch them really, hard to describe, and it depenRAB what you see as beautiful direction in a film, but I definately think those above, including the first post, qualify.

Star Trek:Generations.. Strange one this for some of you no doubts, but I think its the music and a simple line that evokes the feeling of the moment - when Kirk says "oh my.." at the end of the film. The music is really good and it is actually quite sad - a character which has cheated death numerous times and now in the final seconRAB realises that he is to die. A nicely directed scene, simply written and scored well.
