The film, a dramatisation of Christopher Reid's narrative poem, tells the story of an unnamed book editor (Alan Rickman) who, 15 years after their break-up, is meeting his former love (Emma Thompson) for a nostalgic lunch at Zanzotti's, the Soho restaurant they used to frequent.

"The Woman" is now living a glamorous life in Paris, married to a world-renowned writer, while the unnamed editor has failed in his writing career, detests his mundane publishing job and regrets the end of their love affair.

When he arrives at Zanzotti's he finRAB it under new management and much changed, and this seems to fuel his resentment about growing older and being left behind. The stage is set for an emotional and bittersweet reunion.

As the wine flows, and the couple rake over their failed relationship, nostalgia turns to recrimination.

Really looking forward to watching this drama; and to see Alan on our TV screens again (a rare occasion these days).

Anyone else looking forward to seeing this?

I'm looking forward to it too.

Alan Rickman could read the telephone directory in that gorgeous voice and I'm joining you in that melted puddle.

When did Emma Thompson get so glamorous?
She looks fantastic in the trailer.

The reviewer in the Radio Times says Alan speaks as though he is rolling out shortcrust pastry with his tongue.:o

She really liked the programme.

They did play man and wife in Love Actually.

I'm really looking forward to it as I like them both and always find they work so well together. I always felt Colonel Brandon ended up with the wrong sister!

A strange piece that I didn't think I'd care for, but it was wonderful stuff.

I love the way that it looked at the minutae of the way we can all think far too much about things, given his constant commentary. It just got better and better as it went on and when it ended... practical silence over the end credits... except for the waffling of an announcer :(

It was reasonably good. A bit pretentious in places but they are luvvies and the female lead is the husband of the director so what else can we expect?
