BBC announce new "Film 2010" presenter.

Mr Romarin to you.

There's no 'demand' from me...you don't 'need' to explain yourself...but if you don't, you invite the conclusion that you can't.

Me too. Underneath the ditzy exterior she's as sharp as a tack and very skilled at putting any interviewees immediately at ease. I hope, and believe, we'll see Film 2010 moving in that direction a bit more.

Good choice.

He was 100% correct.

I suspect the BBC didn't ask Mark Kermode because they knew he wouldn't accept it.

She's better on it than her 'ditzy' TV persona.

Is she can tone down the latter, she might just get away with the Film job.

IMO there could have been both better and worse choices for the job.

CLAUDIA F###ING WINKLEMAN. my pet chinchillas know more about films than than bloody woman. what is wrong with the BBC...! at least J Ross is a movie geek and knew what he was talking about, even if you didnt agree with his reviews.

Not that it really matters, but doesn't Claudia do the oscar's coverage for Sky. I would think you would need to be a film fan to endure those 6 hours.

I'm depressed.

I'd even begun to imagine a Simon Mayo / Mark Kermode 2 hander - that would have been essential viewing. Now.... phhhhhh.

I think Mark's "explanation" is BS. Would be fascinated to know the real story, but I suspect the edjits in charge thought a woman would give the show a "fresh new face".

I'm depressed.

Depressed.

Deeeeeprreeeessseed.

Claudia who?:) ..no wonder the BBCs going down the pan !she was bad enough in Strictly!...who will they think of next ...bit like putting Ozzy Osbourne in charge of Most Haunted ! and shes probably scarier than him......Bring back Barry Norman!!

Give her a chance, eh. Ross is a genuine film fan, but that didn't stop his opinions from running the gamut from middling to asinine, so who knows. The show neeRAB a revamp and she may well surprise. I like the idea of using a variety of critics too. A bit like Newsnight Review, but without the toxic level of pretentious wank.

I'm a fan of hers, although I don't watch the dancing programmes. According to the article, "Claudia currently has her own weekly Arts Show on BBC Radio 2 on Friday nights, delivering a feast of the finest offerings from film, theatre, arts, TV and music." So I guess she has some relevant experience. I get the impression in the "new look Film 2010" she'll be largely acting as moderator for expert opinions rather than relying on her own opinions, but I could be wrong.

Has anyone heard her radio show? What's it like?

Jonathan Ross once declared "Batman Forever" was "one of the greatest Action Adventure Movies of All time".

Claudia Winkleman fills me with the same kind of confidence as when I heard Ross was replacing Barry Norman.

They should have revamped the whole thing. Copied the "At the Movies" format from the US (which has, um, just been axed) and had two presenters debating the merits of a film. Kermode would have been excellent for this type of format. Pair him with someone more "mainstream" but knowledgeable (so not Simon Mayo for this) and it would have been great.

Yeah a Siskel(RIP) and Ebert type show for the revamped BBC film show would be a good idea. You could have two serious film critics (Kermode has always ruled it out, sadly, but hey Mark Cousins is available).

Sadly the Beeb have gone celebrity and probably dished out another multi million pound contract. The film programme died when Bazza left.
