That's the difference between you and I then pal. She doesn't look like a good movie critic and after all image is half the battle when it comes to shows like this. If they don't look like critics but rather some X Factor judge then it is bound to disappoint.

What are the BBC doing?

Whats next King Herrod in charge of child welfare - Winkleman RAB?

Rossy was bad but this is one of the worst decisions ever.

You might be interested to know that Claudia Winkleman is to host a revamped "Film 2010" - taking over from Jonathan Ross. It says here. Other contenders were Mark Kermode, Simon Mayo and James King.

I guess its the radio 2 tie in whats clinched it. I think it'll be good.

Did you even read some of the posts in here...

And to bring up what she looks like, I didn't know film critics had 'a look'... who gives a shit, as long as she is relatively smart and doesn't have her tits hanging out and looks like a slapper, who cares really.

Perhaps you could enlighten me as to what a good movie critic looks like...and then explain why you think 'image' is so important because it's far from self-evident.

Kermode said he was never asked, but would not have considered it anyway since it requires a certain mainstream mentality, which he is not :)

This I did not know. Thinking about it I guess I'm pleased he's not doing it, for the reasons he's stated, but it does seem odd that he wasn't even asked. He's easily the most qualified currently working for the BBC. I'll never understand the need to mainstream a film review show with a minimal audience.

A legitimate and reasonable question in response to what you posted...and unless and until you stop giving every indication that you're trying to avoid it in favour of hackneyed BBC bashing, I don't think you're in much of a position to criticise anyone for having 'no clue'.

Claudia Winkleman?

She's a good tv presenter, no doubt about that, but she's not someone I would ever associate with films or giving her opinions on films. Strange choice. Also, she's very well established with Strictly Come Dancing/It Takes Two. Seems a boring choice when the BBC could have been a bit more imaginative and found someone unknown. The BBC hired a relative unknown to be the new Doctor Who - Matt Smith, so they can be imaginative, so why not do the same for their Film show?

Which, with respect to Mr kermode, is a load of nonsense seeing as he was Radio 1's main film reviewer for years then switched over to being Radio 2's main film reviewer. You can't get more mainstream than Radios 1 and 2! It's not as if his was the film reviewer for some illegal pirate radio station so I don't get it that's he not mainstream.

The only thing not mainstream about that guy is his rather odd Elvis Presley hairstyle which must have gone out of fashion back in the 1970s. :D

Claudia Winklemen wouldn't have been my first choice. Will she genuinely review a film in a way only a lover of cinema can, or read off an autocue?

Until you answer the question, it is turned around whether you like it or not...unfortunately.

For the record I have 3 Scoobies, a Fred and 2 Velmas.

What Dr Kermode actually said was "[Film 2010] requires a mainstream sensibility... I don't do moderation." He made the point that BBC One would hardly want as their film reviewer someone who believed that 3D is a con put about by businessmen or that the best film of 2009 was a Swedish vampire movie. He is very good at explaining non-mainstream films to a mainstream audience but is that what mainstream BBC One audiences want?

She's probably on a pretty lucrative contract at the beeb anyway. Maybe they've offered her this so it seems like we're getting more for our money, given the scrutiny they're under these days.
Bad choice imo. I remember her piss poor Angus Deayton impression on Hell's Kitchen. As funny as a fire in an orphanage.
