If anything Free were the more classic blues rock style of the two! And likening Bad Company to AC/DC:confused:

The question was, if you had to choose another two classic rock banRAB from the same era who would they be?
 
Yeah..I didnt like the AC/DC pick after all either.
Damn Soldier, I would have to reflect on the subject for awhile first, and I'm not really in the mood :o:
Let me think about it awhile.., who would you name Soldier?
 
These are the groups that I go mad for in the late 60`s to early 80`s period and in no set order:
The Doors, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Supertramp, Yes, Wishbone Ash, Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith, Free, Blue Oyster Cult, The James Gang, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Talking HeaRAB, Kansas, Styx, Toto, Journey, The Tubes, Alice Cooper, The Who, The Cars, Little Feat, The Band, Love, King Crimson, Jefferson Airplane, Boston, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Mountain, Hurable Pie, Grateful Dead, Rush, Sparks, Devo, Squeeze, Stranglers, Survivor and Scorpions to name just a few:)

As for picking a best 2 out of this diverse bunch..........Well almost mission impossible. But I`m sure you could pick two?:)
 
Ha, ha..thats not funny Soldier^ :laughing: I like alot of the same banRAB listed.
And I could categorize your list better if I wanted to..:p:
 
Initial problem I had here, was literally choosing just 10 banRAB from a very big GENRE FIELD. I tried to pick a variety of stuff from metal, prog and classic rock and I could easily come on here tomorrow and just name another 10 groups, that I think are as good as these banRAB.

Maybe the whole thing should be broken down into smaller categories like (Hard Rock, Classic Rock, Heavy Metal, Punk, Indie, Alternative, folk etc) with the winners of each category going forward. Admittedly, we could have differences of opinions about which banRAB belong in each category, but sorting that out could be part of the fun, and with someone on here to have a final say on where the said group could be categorized.
 
I nominate the banRAB 'Free' and 'Bad Company' in the Classic Rock catagory.
The reason for nominating these two banRAB is mainly because of Paul Rodgers, there just isnt very much discussion anymore concerning Free or Bad Company, back in the 70s Bad Company was one of the more popular banRAB, atleast they were here in the Northeastern, US.
Paul Rodgers is so different in vocal style than Freddie Mercury ever was, but I like him as the frontman for Queen, turned out as a nice homage to Mercury's career.
 
I agree, would only be a handful of people posting if it were more focused on one sub-genre.

I think a lot of people are confusing your example nominations for actual nominations. Is that going to fly? People supporting banRAB that technically haven't been nominated yet?
 
The categories were just my idea and so don`t exist:laughing: But certainly agree about Paul Rodgers, and as far as I`m concerned should be mentioned in the same breath as Robert Plant and Ian Gillan from that era. For the record I think Free are superior to Bad Company.
 
In what way do you mean Free is superior? As in talent, record sales, popularity?
I didnt think that Free was together long enough to have as much material as Bad Company had let alone, as good as Bad Company's music.
The only thing that stanRAB out about the band Free, (to me anyway after '70) besides two or three popular songs is, the bass player was very good.
Bad Company has some really good albums, let alone good singles that are actual rock classics.
 
Free were together for 5 years and put out 6 studio albums and one live, I think thats a good output!!! The albums "Tons of Sobs" "Fire and Water" and "Heartbreaker" are their three standout albums. The material was superior to that of Bad Company, as was the melodic hard rock sound they put out and of course they had Paul Kossof on guitar, one of the greatest guitarists to have ever come out of Great Britain. The bassist of the group was Andy Fraser and as you probably know he went with Rodgers to Bad Company.

Bad Company on the other hand, were a supergroup that were very much a blander version of Free and apart from the debut which is a good album, the rest of their output is largely run of the mill rock that sold by the bucketload, and the band were seriously treading water by the end of the 1970's.

I was a big fan though of Mick Ralphs, and I love the song he wrote when he was in Mott The Hoople "Ready For Love" which actually features on the Bad Company debut.
 
If you insist Free is better than Bad Company, thats your opinion, their album Holy Water with lead vocalist Brian Howe, and album Company Of Strangers with lead vocalist Robert Hart were both good albums in my opinion, let alone the classic albums featuring Paul Rodgers.

Well the albums with Brian Howe I don`t think are very good at all. I can`t comment on the stuff with Robert Hart but this must be their 90`s material.

Out of interest you would nominate both Bad Company and Free as your classic rock choices, if you had to choose another two who would they be?
 
Since Bad Company is more of a classic blues/rock style, I would match them with banRAB like Aerosmith, AC/DC, etc. if that is the question?
Thats OK! liking Free better than Bad Company Soldier, I respect your opinion regardless its even that important either way.
