Battle of the 90's cartoons

I'm afraid I must disagree. The 90s had terrific, well thought out shows like "Batman" and "Gargoyles." Very character and story driven shows. Very intelligently written.

The 80s tended to just advertise toy lines and didn't attempt anything else.
 
They all had at least one or two shows that I would consider some of the best ever, so I really couldn't choose one or rank them.
 
The toy lines were advertised because the toons were wildly popular.

I'd take Transformers, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, Alvin & The Chipmunks, The Smurfs and Muppet Babies over anything in the 90's. Probably more, but definitely those.
 
I like those too, as well as He-Man & the Masters of the Universe, TMNT, and Garfield & Friends, but I still prefer the '90s toons 'cause I grew up with them and remember them better.
 
The toons were the advertisement, they were the commercials. But they hardly had any story, and no character development. Every episode was a non-sequitrr in those days.

I don't mind you liking them, but I'd like to know what that's preferable? I mean, every episode of Transformers was the same.

*Decepticons go to steal some Energon.
*Autobots come in to stop them.
*Megatron unleashes his new superweapon of the day that he cackles about, but does nothing.
*Optimus Prime does something heroic.
*Starscream tries to backstab Megatron.
*Megatron smacks Starscream and Starscream cries.
*Superweapon blows up.
*Decepticons retreat.
*Wash, rinse, repeat.

Yeah I like those you mentioned as well.

Don't get me wrong, there are some great 90's toons. Batman: TAS, Beavis & Butthead, Ren & Stimpy, Family Guy, Johnny Bravo, and South Park are all awesome and are among my all time favs. But overall I liked the 80's better because they seemed to have better storylines overall.

I suspect that the reason you gave for preferring 90's toons is the same reason most people that share that opinion do. It's all good though.
 
Every episodes WAS NOT the same. They might have had the same objective just like most action toons, but different things happened in them all.

I disagree entirely with you saying that 80's toons had no character development or storylines. I remember the Thundercats trials were Lion-O was trying to get his powers by trying to uphend a different Thundercat in specific events. You learned something about each of the Thundercats in those episodes, as well as Mumm-Ra and his crew. Same with all the toons I mentioned.

I loved the storylines in each of the toons I mentioned as well as several others. I think many 90's toons and especially 2000's toons were overrated because of the quality of their animation. That's not to say that they haven't been great toons from those decades, But the old school has spawned more legendary toons IMO.
 
1.) Nickelodeon - I watched this channel the most. Rugrats, Doug, Ren and Stimpy, Little Bear, Blue's Clues...you name it, I watched it.

2.) Disney - I think DuckTales is the first Disney cartoon I watched. Then came along Bonkers and Goof Troop. That's how Goofy became one of my favorite cartoon characters of all time.

3.) Warner Bros. - Largely because of Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs. I remember Tiny Toon Adventures airing on Nick sometime in the mid '90s. Animaniacs truly became an instant hit in 1993 and I enjoyed it after school.

4.) Cartoon Network - When I first got a glimpse at Cartoon Network, it was because of Tom and Jerry, which I still enjoy to this day. Also, the What a Cartoon! Show and a series of CN's short clips ("Rupert the Grouper" anyone?) brought my attention, and sometimes I was forced to watch Space Ghost Coast to Coast my older brother liked.
 
Since we're doing 90's toons...

1. Nickelodeon: I was practically hooked on the channel growing up, and I liked just about every 90s Nicktoon (didn't care for CatDog, Rocket Power, or Ren & Stimpy, save a few episodes).

2. WB: When I didn't feel like watching Nick (there were times), there was Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, and Freakazoid!

3. Cartoon Network: The only Cartoon Cartoons I liked were Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, and Courage (in that order). Johnny Bravo was all right, but Cow and Chicken was downright stupid.

(And all three aired Looney Tunes at some point)

4. Disney: The only ones I watched were Ducktales, Gargoyles, Pepper Ann, and Recess. The rest were all right, but I never gave them much thought.
 
1. Cartoon Network. Especially near the end of the decade. There was little on the network that didn't like or found unwatchable.

2. Fox and WB (tied): Through most of the 90s, I didn't have cable or sattelite, and Fox and WB were all I had to work with back then. I watched both networks equally, and enjoyed most of what I saw.

3. Disney. I didn't watch much of Disney in the 90s. What I did see was either broadcasted on ABC or Fox. But my fondest cartoon memories of the early 90s were all Disney.

4. Nickolodean: During the 90s, I never watched Nick. None of the Nicktoons that I saw at the time were worth watching for me. I didn't really paid attention to Nick until Avatar fans started to invade teh Internet in the mid-2000s.
 
1. Nickelodeon - I know my user name in cnfan91 but I watched Nickelodeon the most of any of the cartoon stations. If the ranking included anime, cartoons, and other stuff, then I'd say Cartoon Network but if it's just cartoons then I have to go with Nickelodeon.

2. Cartoon Network - close 2nd but still had a lot of cartoons I really enjoyed

3. Fox Kids/WB - I miss the weekday afternoon cartoons and saturday morning cartoons that they had, especially Fox Kids. Life with Louie, Bobby's World, and WB: Animaniac's, Batman TAS, Batman Beyond, Freakazoid, and more...

4. Disney - Never really watched Disney cartoons that much in syndication, but I watched them once I got Disney Channel but they still come in last.
 
1. Disney - Aside from real classic Disney, this was Disney's best era. There wasn't a bad show in the bunch. The comedy and plot were always top notch.
2. Nick - The 90's were gold for Nick. I loved almost every Nicktoon and still do. All of the series were very well done and weren't afraid to break the humor boundaries.
3. Kids WB - I watched this channel every Saturday morning and managed to enjoy every show even though I probably wouldn't now.
4. Cartoon Network - 4th place certainly isn't a bad thing because I love all of these channels. But honestly, I never watched it that much and there weren't a whole lot of shows that I would ever have a desire to watch from the beginning like shows from the other channels.
 
Same for me and the 80's. Take Nickelodeon for example. The Nicktoons were cool, but Dangermouse and Count Duckula were just as good if not better. Not to mention their live action shows. You Can't Do That On Television was the best live action kids show of all time IMO.
 
I want to add to my # 3 favorite cartoon station Kids WB by saying that I miss it a lot too because of all the cartoons and anime I watched on there. Pokemon, (I know they're 00's but still Yu-Gi-Oh! Statick Shock, and Cardcaptors).

Some here may have seen it on Fox first but I first remember seeing Dragon Ball Z on Kids WB first. Oddly enough though, I didn't really get into DBZ until it came on Toonami..... Weird huh?
 
Dragon Ball Z never aired on Fox. It first ran in the US in syndication as part of a block of shows produced by Saban, among them: Saban's Eagle Riders, Samurai Pizza Cats, The Why Why Family and Adventures of Oliver Twist. This block ran locally on several Fox affiliates, which is probably what you're thinking of.

Also, DBZ only ran on Kids' WB! for one week.
