"Battle for Terra" Talkback (Spoilers)

I saw it. Great movie. It felt rushed at the end, but otherwise a good movie. I say it is Pocahontas in Space, but without the interracial love story.

In spite the bad mainstream reviews, I recogmend it. It may be CGI, but the CGI works well here.

Since Terra is coming from a semi-major distributor (Lionsgate), has had some degree of advertising, and is in 3-D, Terra will probably make some money. Probably less than Despereaux or Coraline, but it definitely won't be a megaflop like Delgo.

I can't get over the designs in this thing (specifically the bug-shrimp things)

It's a brilliantly realized and visualized film that is undercut by its politics. This is really the first children's film of the Obama era: humans are generally depicted (with a few politically-correct exceptions) as no damn good, destroyers of our own world and now looking to steal someone else's. The story reflects some of the darkest aspects of American history, while ignoring any of the positive ones. And the heavies in the film are almost exclusively white males. The one significant minority human character (a black "president"...what a coincidence!) and the one significant female character, the president's subordinate (what is she anyway? Secretary of State....hmmm.) are depicted as the voices of reason in a floundering human society overwhelmed by a murderous military that has already destroyed three planets and has learned nothing from it. It was a beautiful film to look at, but it left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Better than Monsters vs Aliens? It was better than any of the recent Dreamworks stuff and arguably what they have coming next, ie more sequels. I agree it was rushed at the end but it still a very good sci-fi film. I'm sad it didn't get better reviews.

Off-topic: Is the studio behind this also doing The Nine?

If you mean the Tim Burton-produced movie "9", then no. "9" is done by Focus Features, who made "Coraline".

True about the Dreamworks statement (Except Kung Fu Panda. I LOVE Kung Fu Panda).

It's still just sad that this film didn't get the attention it deserves. I remember only seeing commercials for it on Cartoon Network. Unfortunately, just like Delgo.

Ah, thanks. Now I know to not see it. What a waste. I had hoped that Captain Planet-type animation was a thing of the past, but apparently not. And of course, this means the military types are stereotypical bad guys. Of course.

Just give me Wall-E, I say. It says a lot without needing to be an overtly preachy, anti-human parable.

This is true, but that makes him an exception to the rule. The critical issue is that the movie did what I feared, namely making the issue of humanity needing to inhabit this planet or perish a false one, thereby making the plot too easy and one-sided.

Yes, I suppose, but does'nt the very existence of sympathetic human characters mean that the shows message can't possible be a collective "Humans are Bastards"? I mean, it could have done better, obviously, it could have left things more morally ambiguous. But It's hardly Captain-Planet level one-sided. There's just a villain.

Sure about that Leviathan?

Anyone notice how Lionsgate advertised the movies, they made it look like the humans have to save the Earth by fighting Terra. Sort of like how Final Fantasy was constantly mis-advertised and they basically lied about the plot.

Anyway, I think when the first trailer was posted on here, I did say it was the next Delgo, uh oh :D .
