Wow, just seen this film 3 years after it was released:o amazing acting, great plot. Amazing!

On the blu ray side, the picture quality is amazing, a good film to show someone the quality of blu ray.

just got this on bluray and it doesnt work.

it gets past the warner logo and stays on a black screen
i have the samsung bdp1400.

can anyone help

I have the same problem. It's not a faulty disc, I've tried a couple of BB discs in there now, it's the player. I have the same one and apparently it has trouble playing certain new BR releases.

You need to download a firmware update to update the machine's software. Samsung released an update online, to fix the problem, but...I downloaded the update, burned it onto a CD and put it in the player only to have an error message pop up. Turns out the update is is just for U.S. machines.

It may well be something to do with the more advanced discs that go beyond the basic Profile 1.0 of the Samsung.

Although the discs should play regardless I'd wager thats the problem

DVD retailer Movietyme began to sell Samsungs dual format player but initial tests showed it not only failed to play many Bluray discs but also HD DVD aswell so they removed it from their site and offered refunRAB to anyone who had bought it

HOOKED the player up to internet did the update works fine now :)

the prologue looks AMAZING in 1080p. Cant wait till next wednesday got special screening tickets.

Isn't it a waste to get the PS3 if not interested in the video games side, just to use it as a film player... are there no good Sony blu ray players out just as good?

No. Trust me I owned a standalone player on a temporal basis.

Do not waste your money.

The PS3 is better quality and value on all counts.

As for the BB Blu-ray? Terrific is all I have to say.

PS3 is Sony yes? so I would have thought the Sony film player only machines would be fine? have they just concentrated on their video game machine then?

I would have thought they would have waited to put out blu ray players, outside of PS3, until they had no problems...

Don't worry, I'm not wasting any money.

Okay... remember when DVD players were noisy, big and problematic? Well that's what these standalone Sony Blu-ray players are currently like.

I'm starting to think they are concentrating more on the PS3 also.

I mean the sales of standalone Blu-ray players have been poor, so that would make sense.

One reason why the PS3 is better is that Sony made it very future-proof because they want it to last for at least 7 years. It's basically a powerful PC that can be updated all the time. Standalone Blu-ray players just can't be as good as that. Also, Sony are willing to lose a lot of money on every PS3 console they sell as long as they get the machines in people's homes. Technically the PS3 should be

Ah, the wonders of Blu Ray. Yes, a PC or a PS3 is the only viable player currently, BB is well known for not playing on any player without a firmware upgrade. With the PS3 it's painless. Sadly this was the killer advantage HD DVD had over Blu ray, the players were finished, and a network port was part of the spec. You can expect a firmware upgrade to be needed with many many discs, it's the nature of the format. Best advice is as above, don't buy a player till they have network sockets. Ie, PS3 or PC
