On the role of Batman: "In my mind, it would have been stealing the part away from me if someone else had done it."

That's a very good sign! Roger Ebert likes characters so that means the movie has some depth, which is a great combo w/ superhero films.

Just seen it, LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT. Seriously, this movie rocked on so many levels - the acting, the backstory, emotional depth, giving everything a purpose... I could go on and on praising the movie. Christian Bale does a terrific job, and he is the best Batman so far. Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson - perfect. And Katie Holmes wasn't that bad.

One more thing I absolutely loved is the humour. Clever, dry humour, bits and pieces of it scattered through the movie, in all the right places, where they really work.

Real Batman has Begun. I can't wait to see what happens next. :look:

I really was not that impressed by this movie, which is sad because I love Christian Bale.

Maybe I am just desensitized now that there are so many comic book movies....

I did LOVE the scarecrow...Cillian Murphy is so freaky!!!!!!!!!!!! that was awesome

Christian Bale and Gary Oldman in one movie? I can't wait for this movie! I thought it was the greatest news that they got Christian Bale to be Batman, but to have Gary Oldman being Gordon too. Yay!

Thanks for the news on what Katie Holmes' character was. I was scared they would try to cast her as Ra's daughter, even though she would look nothing like Ken Watanbe.

Ugh, we have to wait a whole year for this movie to be released. Seems so long.

Batmobile Footage!

The footage is, somehow, the best footage seen from BATMAN BEGINS... this is odd cuz it was shot by Geeks on the streets of Chicago with, most likely, a cheap camcorder... and not Gigantic $100,000 Dollar Panavision Super Machines like the crappy trailer they put out was shot with. Maybe, it's the geek commentary tracks on this footage, but somehow, this is the single most exciting and cool thing I've seen regarding this new Batman film. I'm hoping, like the rest of us that Nolan knocks it out of the park... but to me, it all looks, visually, flat.... until the geek camcorder footage, that is. Check it out! Tres Cool!

 This movie was great. The Scarecrow, Bruce slowly turning into "the batman", stumbling along the way, the discussions about the morality of his actions, etc.

Actually the Katie Holmes character, Rachel and the Rutger Hauer character, Earle (the guy in charge of Wayne Ind.) are the only ones who DIDN'T come from the comic book. Everybody else (the Waynes, Joe Chill their murderer, Falcone, Ra's, Ducard, Crane, Gordon, Alfred, Lucius Fox) do. Rachel was the weak link in the film IMO. Not her personally but the character itself was unneccessary. Bruce Wayne doesn't NEED a love interest. His villians are interesting enough. Besides we know that they'll never last (even his two main love interest in the comics, Selina/Catwoman and Talia, Ra's Al Ghul's daughter go in and out of his life). Bruce Wayne's great love is Gotham City, thats what drives him.

But it was indeed a GREAT, GREAT movie. Probably the best adaptation of a comic book superhero I've ever seen (and I'm counting Spiderman and Superman). Bale was fantastic and this puts him in the top tier of actor - from now he's going to be a superstar. Caine, Neeson, Watanabe, Wilkinson, Freeman (all talented and either Academy-awarded or nominated actors) are just great in supporting roles and Cillian Murphy despite his pretty boy face was suitably creepy as Crane/Scarecrow. One of my fave actors, Gary Oldman, shined again as well, playing against his usual role, as an honest cop and blue-collar good guy who in his way is as much as hero in corrupt Gotham as Bruce. Chris Nolan has instantly become one of my favorite directors and...I can't wait to see it again!

Batman Begins has nothing to do with past Batman movies. This isn't a sequel but a restart of the Batman franchise. So events that happened in the other Batman movies have nothing to do with this one or any other Batman films Nolan might do.
