Basquash - attempt #2

Last year, Satelight launched Basquash, a show with mechas playing basketball. Now, they want to re-launch/re-make it, this time to cater it more towarRAB kiRAB and sports fans than to an otaku audience.

Thoughts? Mine will come later because it's 3 AM.

A little weird that they would remake it so soon. Basquash was a real disappointment though. It had a strong start, and then sort of fizzled out with a lot of disgusting over-the-top fanservice and bizarre story ideas that never really fit together. If making the new version more kid-friendly also makes it more focused and better plotted, than I'm all for it.

Yeah, this will not work.

How is the fan service gonna be removed? Unless, they're willing to really go for it and start the whole thing all over again.

Yeah, i stopped watching the first show early on, and it wasnt the fanservice (i liked that), the show was just lame, i wasn't exactly exited by the basketball playing mechs... or the basketball, and since the show was about that it just wasn't working for me. Also the main character got annoying after a while, and i disliked most of the other characters too. So since this new show is probably just going to take out the ecchi or whatever and keep all that stuff, theres just less reason for me to watch it, so i definitely wont be giving this a chance.... unless i hear very good things or the hype is incredible or something.

Eh, im not a sports an in general, so its gonna take a really really good anime or manga with some great characters for me to get into it, and il tell you this was definitely no Eyeshield 21 (only sports manga i ever liked, and one of my favorite manga ever).

Honestly, I was about to include DXD in the title of this thread. Basquash and its concept would sound perfect for DXD and its bent towarRAB sports. Didn't the press release announcing the network said that there would be some integration/promotion with ESPN and vice versa?

It turns out that, according to the commenters over at ANN, the Basquash DVRAB are edited to remove the fanservice.

There was also a lot of drama going on behind-the-scenes. The show tanked badly early on, and the sponsors clashed with the director that resulted in him getting fired during production. The show's quality suffered. Maybe it was the this dip in quality that resulted in me bailing during the Eclipse episodes. The series concept is still a solid, bankable idea and if they could just tighten everything up that would please both the production staff and the sponsors and still be a good series, then all is well.

So they're so desperate for ideas that they're completely nerfing a TV show to remove sexual content.

You know what? This is stupid. Your show didn't work then, and it won't work now. A few more or less boobies won't change that and more than likely will hurt the final product.

It should be noted that ANN's Tokyo Anime Fair report is calling this a sequel.
