Method 1:
If you represent this situation on the Cartesian Plane & the angle between x-axis and given vector is A.
Then the given force in northwest direction is -500CosA + 500SinA
The resultant is -500i^(i cap)
Then if you consider triangle law of addition and complete the triangle,the resultant is on negative x-axis(i.e. westward) only when the second force acts in southwest direction.
Ans: South West direction.
