basic instinct II

No I have not seen it as it not out offically till the 31st of this month. They have only just had the world premiere for it recently so I guess it is out in the UK and the US at the same time. I have seen the trailer recently in the cinema and it looks like a straight to video/DVD film!

Too much sex (never thought I'd say that..) and it's not nice, not sexy sex if you know what I mean? Plus, I think Sharon Stone is a bit too old (for my tastes anyway) to be doing this sort of thing. It was like watching an ITV1 Sunday drama with someone flicking over to the porn channel every now and again. The beginning bit with Stan Collymore just left me feeling a bit uncomfortable. This is coming from someone who's straight, mature and very broadminded.

Not forgetting David Thewlis' Welsh accentwhich strays into comedy Welsh and 1970's sitcom style 'Indian' in equal measure from time to time. The whole thing is just a bad idea. We didn't need a sequel to the original anyway.

It was totally Awesome! I loved it all, Sharon Stone is WOW! :)

Thought it was a clever plot, and still thinking about it a little. A thriller of the best kind basically.

David Thewlis is doing a Welsh accent in it? Why, for the love of god? He is a great actor though, I'm sure he'll be one of the best things about this. Not that I'm really interested in seeing it. It's bound to be a very average thriller but with Sharon Stone having sex a couple of times. The original Basic Instinct has been a blueprint for so many 'erotic' thrillers. The problem is, they might thrill you if your usual viewing is Last of the Summer Wine and Heartbeat, but otherwise no.

By the way, I got 1,000 posts. And in a stupid thread as well. Whoop-de-do...

Sharon Stone still looks great and I can't wait to see the sequel...The critics don't like it very much, american public on the other hand disagree. The film's box office score for the opening weekend is pretty impressive :)
Sharon Stone is executive producer and she probably is impressed, too ;)

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Sharon Stone does NOT look great to me - her boobs looked wierd - other cinema goers commented on it too so it's not just me - and she has old hanRAB plus she is clearly too skinny as you can see her ribs as plain as day in many scenes.

As far as a sequel goes, if it's another 14 years and she is in it that would make her 62. I would not pay good money (or for free) want to watch a 62-year-old having sex of flashing her 'lady garden'. Please G-d, NO! This first sequel wasn't even neccessary.

And with regarRAB to the US take, there must be more lonely men in America than I thought.... expect a big drop off next week.

Most people would either give this film 10/10 or 0/10, less in between marks. According to IMDB

Could be the idea that America is still kinda pruddy about sex on TV or in any form of public media (No Sun page 3 girls in ANY newspapers over there) but they have no problem with the most guesome horror movies ever made "Hostel" or "The Hills Have Eyes" for example.

I didnt find the sex scenes OTT, there were 3 tops? I enjoyed the fact that you saw a women "enjoying" herself for once!

Maybe people still have hang ups about women being in control? I wont go and buy it on DVD, but it was all very clever, the best kind of thriller IMO

They're not prude, just have some class.

Well... maybe not lol. I wish we as a nation had more class. Just a load of chavs.

This is a chav film.

That's not class it's stupidity, remember the Janet Jackson stuff! We had that with Richard and Judy, years before over here and it was just funny not an outrage.

Plus I'd rather live in the UK, and not have to view sex as only some kind of biological function to make a baby OK thats not true of everyone over there, but sex is more policed. Here your allowed to at least "enjoy" it :D A bit like in this movie, perhaps that's why it was set in the UK this time :D

I don't think American's being prudish has anything to do with it - after all they are the centre of the porn industry - buying, selling and manufacture. Realistically, the bible-belt mentality is in the minority over there, they just make more noise!

And I don't think people have hang-ups about women being in control at all. She was in control in the first one and people lapped it up! I do think that if the roles were reversed and the man was the agressive/dominant one in the sex scenes (especially the choking one) there would be far more outcry... but then again it would be a different movie all together.

With regarRAB to the film's box office score for the opening weekend being "pretty impressive", I don't call $3.2 million and tenth place in the top ten impressive. The original had the equivalent of $20 million plus.

I thought it was enjoyably rubbish if you know what I mean. Very similar to the first one but in a sense that it was all done before. I don't think Sharon was into it as much as the first either....but it wasn't a bad storyline for what it was which was not a serious attempt at a thought provoking film.
