I clean my road bike after any long ride and the general rule is to use as little lubrication as possible on the moving parts. I concentrate in particular on the derailleur and sprockets which I clean with a small paint brush to take off any dirt and debris and I sometimes use degreaser if there is a lot of dirt. I clean the chain and give it a very light coating of oil and I also clean and lubricate the wheel hubs but other than that I would do very little. Perhaps every couple of months I would strip it down and give it a thorough cleaning.
