Based on this quick first draft blurb type thing, would you read my book?

Seeking Evangeline - Evangeline was a little girl born with severe muscular dystrophy in her face, meaning she wasn’t able to smile. Her rich parents, aghast that their social status may be hanging in the balance, hid poor Evangeline away. But after six years of attempted escape, her parents began to fear the worst. One day, she might escape. One day she might be revealed to the whole world, and bring shame on the family name. So, there was only one option. Have her murdered. Drowned in the well at the bottom of their stately garden. So as to make it look like an accident. Years later, Evangeline is back. But how? Did she survive?
I was thinking modern times maybe? But I'm not so sure modern time parents would murder their daughter to savetheir social status. What would you suggest? :/

It doesn't seem like the kind of book I would normally read, but it actually does look interesting! This could be very good, and I would definitely read it.
But I wouldn't set it in modern times.
Like you said, parents probably wouldn't murder their daughter to save their social status unless they lived in a third world country. Maybe set it back in medieval times, when they had kings and queens and such? Her father could be an earl or something.
Here's a list of time periods from Wikipedia. Look through them and find one that could work for your story! :D I believe suggestion would be classified as the Late Middle Ages to Early Modern Period (Europe) on that list (: The Victorian Era could also work!
Sometimes you need to do a little research in order to write a good story (:

Good luck! I hope you make it work because this idea really has a lot of potential!

I agree with you, the social status is a sticking point. For one, how would her disability harm their status? It might be an "embarrassment" but the parents would still be rich. And money equals status. Period. Status has nothing to do with a handicapped child.

So I suggest the child somehow putting them at risk of losing their fortune.
