Before I begin, you should know that the following question is about polygamy. If this subject is against your morals, or you wish to have nothing to do with it, THERE IS A BACK BUTTON FOR A REASON. Please don't waste my time and yours by leaving an answer about how immoral and illegal and completely wrong polygamy is.
So recently I finished "The Chosen One" by Carol Lynch Williams, a book about a thirteen year old girl raised in a polygamist camp that is set to marry her sixty year old uncle. It was really amazing; polygamy is a rather taboo subject in our society today, so I enjoyed reading about something so forbidden. Though fictional, Williams obviously did her research.
Moreover, this book really got me thinking and reading up on polygamy. As an aspiring writer myself, I felt compelled to try and write a novel/novella about this subject. Based on this blurb, first of all would you read the book? Second, does this seem like a good subject to write about? "The Chosen One" won several awards, so I would think so. Opinions?
"Not much happened in the sleepy town of Jackson, Utah. Day in, day out, it was always the same. So what happens to this little community when fourteen year old Violet and eighteen year old Liam show up, bruised, battered, and bloodied, proclaiming they've run away from a polygamist camp nearly 100 miles away? As their story is unraveled, can the residents of this town accept them and their relationship? Can they help them? One thing is for sure: their lives will never be the same again."
I'm debating if this should be one story or if I should make it one split into two parts; the first part is their life living with polygamists, then the second as what happens after. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!
This is a blurb from MY writing, NOT Williams', in case that wasn't clear. I want your opinions on MY writing, not HER book.
