After 80-96 pitches thrown, he needs to get to 5 and 1/3 of an inning, to qualify for a win, if he can survive through the night, past 5 1/3 innings, the reliever takes his place, and he pitches an inning of scoreless runs, the reliever qualifies for a hold, till they get the closer, eventhough they are runs scored from the opposing team. And if it is a 5-3 game score, only one run scores from the opposing team, it still qualifies for a save for the last reliever, but the starting pitcher is still credited with a win.
