Barton Fink

Just watched this film. Really impressed. So much to think about and get from the movie. Must have been playing on my mind as I got a lousy night's sleep !

Anyone got opinions on the ending etc ?

As usual.... a very Coen movie. I read a review that summed them up in that when u watch their movies you have to ' meet them half way'. I really understand what the reviewer means. If you are not 'in the mood' then their films can just be seen as dull and not much happening, but with a bit of 'going with it', leaves you with a film that is really thought-provoking by the end

Sorry to say this, but this was the first film I was very nearly going to walk out of the cinema on! UNTIL the scene where he woke up next to the dead body!

But that was a long time ago!

I love Barton Fink, and I love the Coens' movies. You know John Turturro was actually typing the idea for Romance and Cigarettes on the typewriter? I think that's really cool.

You're a sick fcuk Fink

Even though I like them, Im not surprised that some people don't. Its really hard to put your finger on the attraction. Its definately to do with the dialogues, but also the ideas I suppose. The humour is also very subtle and never obvious which I like. Some hilarious bits in Intolerable Cruelty and Big Lebowski, but not obvious gags

Anyone been able to find this on DVD?

We've got the video, but want to replace it.

While I'm about it, is it possible to get Butcher boy on DVD? Many an interweb search has been fruitless for both titles

i know other Coen fans who say this is their weakest, but I think it's up there with there best. Having said that I never thought the much of O Brother... and most people loved it. Maybe I need to see it again.

i love the pomposity of the Fink character, the irony of him seeing himself as a voice of the people, while never letting anyone else speak and the oafish studio head

I find the Coen Brothers' movies fall into two halves, utterly brilliant or total doggedy doo. Barton Fink is in the latter for me. It felt like they'd got a creative block too.
