Banner of the Stars: Out of print?

So this is weird. The sci-fi saga Crest of the Stars from Bandai Entertainment is in print, I got a copy of the collection some time ago easily. Banner of the Stars II is easily gettable. But the FIRST Banner of the Stars I cannot find on Amazon or Rightstuf, which are two stores where I usually expect to be able to find anything. Amazon doesn't even have a "buy used" option. I then started asking random vendors at Katsucon if they had it, with little luck.

On top of that, Banner of the Stars and Banner of the Stars II have both been released multiple times and in the same year at that. And yet II is readily available whereas its predecessor is apparently not. The way things are going, I'm going to have to resort to eBay. But this can't be a good thing for fans of SF that might be late like me in getting around to it.

What is going on?
 
Oh, I love this series. One of my personal favorites that no ones heard of like witcrabroadlade.

Yeah, the first link is the original release. Then there's the 2006 release with different art.

What makes it even weirder is that there was yet another release. Check this out, that's the latest release for Banner of the Stars II. The first has cover art just like that except blue (edit: as shown with that ebay link). Do I find it? No. It's somehow not even listed on Amazon or rightstuf anymore.
 
Right, but beyond that it's messed up that BEI has allowed this. I'd love to hear that they're planning to corabine Banner I and II into one set, but right now it's just confusing and they've allowed it to become more complicated than necessary to collect the entire saga. I don't know how you put out a trilogy of stories and then allow the second to fall out of print.
 
Did you try RACS? Anime Nation? FYE? Best Buy? DVD Pacific? Overstock.com? Deep discount?
