Bands you like that people tend to hate

I can, as Dookie an infinitely better album. Plus Green Day were one of the first few banRAB I got into. American Idiot 2004/2005..

So it's partly sentimental reasons, but I do think Dookie is a great record. Same can't be said for Smash I'm afraid.

When I was a kid in the 70s and 80s I was all about AC/DC all the time 24/7. While they were popular, especially after Back in Black, they were kind of a niche band. Other kiRAB were mostly listening to top 40 or popular rock banRAB like the Eagles or Bruce Springsteen or what have you. I was kind of looked down on for being such a big AC/DC head. The mainstream didn't respect them.

Now, 20-30 years later, even though I don't pay nearly as much attention to AC/DC, I do feel somewhat vindicated in the back of my mind to see how widely accepted they are. And the broad appeal that they have. Their music is used for all kinRAB of mainstream commercials, at sporting events, etc. etc. etc. They are one of the biggest, timeless rock icons around.

If I could go back in time, now I could tell all those people who gave me the business for listening to AC/DC all the time way back when:

"Ha ha I guess I wasn't so crazy after all!"

no. it's because Self-Esteem has the riff to SltS. Come out and Play got them noticed, Self-Esteem got them huge, most people didn't notice they were getting played until way later.

spot on about Smash being WAY better than Dookie though.

Why not? Smash is great. It received unanimous critical acclaim and at the time was the highest selling independent release ever...

RATM aren't hated, they're loved aren't they?

Prodigy aren't hated, people are just indifferent to them?

Keane should be hated. One of my most hated banRAB.

well, say what you want, but is the only band whose almost all songs I like and the only band which I am not willing to give up to accomplish some kind of fake musical "maturity" what most of my frienRAB did

Yeah that's another band I forgot to mention, the Gab era is well liked enough, but I'm an avid defender of the Phil era at least until Invisible Touch, which marks the point where Genesis became indistinguishable from Phil's solo work, which I'm not a fan of. With the exception of this one, which sums up his solo career pretty well.

Except Minutes To Midnight of course.

I don't think people dislike them, thye just don't get talked about much. When it comes down to it, they're my second favorite band ever.

Green Day (excluding 21st Century Breakdown)
Say Anything
AFI (excluding Crash Love)
Fall Out Boy
Coldplay
Cobra Starship (excluding Hot Mess)

I don't know about other people, but I still listen to a lot of music from the 60's and 70's like Doors, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, psychedelic pop, and I especially like those hard rock, garage, proto-punk banRAB like Stooges, MC5 etc. It's just that the Zeppelin kind of classic rock lost its appeal for me. I guess punk changed me forever.

Anyway, in Serbia you had to dig deeper to hear something else cause everybody was listening to that kind of classic rock and Zeppelin are still the most popular band. You would be very hip here, boo boo. :)

RATM split people right down the middle and no one seems to listen to Prodigy anymore claiming they do the same old thing..so what? They blow a lot of metal banRAB out of the water with their intensity. They even survived a tour with Metallica recently and were one of the very few banRAB not to be bottled off at their gigs (metalheaRAB can be durab narrow minded bastarRAB).
