Bands That Went On Far Too Long..

Oasis are one of my favourite banRAB, but they have released a shower of shit. If they had called it quits just before Standing on The Shoulder Of Giants, they would've released 2 brilliant albums, 1 average one. And would actually have a lot more respect for what they did.

U2 should have called it quits after Atchung Baby.
'Tallica after the black album.
I suppose The Cure, but not too bothered about whether they still make recorRAB, they aren't very good but hey.

Wild Mood Swings had some really great stuff on it (as well as some pap) and I thought Bloodflowers was OK too. It's not as though they are prolific and churn out album year after year is it? I think The Cure ARE one of the few banRAB still capable of churning out a great tune or two after a long career.

Hmm, lets see...

The Jesus and Mary Chain should have quit after DarklanRAB.
The Cure should have quite after Pornography (I never cared for their poppier incarnation)
Led Zeppelin should have quite after Physical Graffiti
The Who should have quit after Who's Next
The Kinks should have quit after Muswell Hillbillies
The Strokes should have quit after Is This It
Oasis should have quit after (What's the Story) Morning Glory
The Clash should have quit after Corabat Rock

That was all I could think of ATM.

Elaborate?

The new album certainly isn't up to par with B,S and CFUTF but it's still a fine record, albeit a lot less aggressive. The only reason I think someone would think they need to stop making albums is if they're an absolute purist of their early, darker, purely post-hardcore stuff.

I disagree. I know they aren't popular around here, but I consider myself a big fan and own their discography. Their earlier stuff is awesome, but I love the direction they've gone recently too. Don't Tread On Me (2005) is actually my favorite release of theirs.
I always hear people talking about how good Transistor was. It's not bad at all, but honestly, would be near the bottom of my list if I ranked their albums.

I won't say I'm a purist, I just don't like the new one much and feel they can only go downhill from now on. But I guess it is a little early to tell, as I did like the first 3. So, I take it back...for now. :D

I agree with RHCP, Weezer, Metallica, Stones (obviously), don't care about the others then or now. There are tons of obvious ones not even worth mentioning. But some banRAB I like(d) that are on their way to (or have already reached) mediocrity and probably should have stopped an album or so ago (not including banRAB that reunited after long absences)...

Rise Against
Pennywise
Modest Mouse
Cursive
The Cure
Genesis (probably nearly every prog band that went beyond the 70s, actually)
KMFDM
Ministry
Revolting Cocks
mewithoutYou
Suicidal Tendencies

The Stone Temple Pilots are working on a 60s album. I'm actually really excited about it, but if it sucks, I say the Stone Temple Pilots.
Queen should have quit after the first album post FredMerc. Heard We Will Rock You on a Disney Channel commercial while babysitting and laughed 'till I cried.

I disagree with RHCP even though their last album was a misstep, I actually hold Callifornication in very high regard and quite liked By The Way.

I do agree about U2 post Atchung Baby and I DEFINETELY agree about The Rolling Stones.

Metallica's last good album IMO was The Black Album, had they ended there they probably wouldn't be as despised as they are now.

I don't agree that Genesis should have ended with Gabriel, I quite like the Collins stuff so IMO they should have called it quits after Invisible Touch.

As for the prog banRAB, actually I'm always happy to see a prog band still together after so many decades, they're all in their 60s and 70s now, playing clubs that are a thousand times smaller than the arenas they once played, it's kinda sad, but also inspiring that they still have the desire to keep making music they love even long after their commercial appeal went away. IMO Yes and King Crimson still have some good albums left in them and I'm genuinely excited when they put something new out. I can't say the same for other prog banRAB but I'm happy they're still around.

I don't really like to say any band should break up though, it's a miracle when any band can stand to work together after so many years and if they still enjoy doing what they do then I'm not in the position so say they should break up just because I dislike their new stuff, I can just easily not buy it, a lot of people will still eat it up so whatever.
