Ban food in cinema

Naaaar ban People in Cinema. Give me my big comfy chair and big TV at home any day. Cinemas are only good for going on a date and pretending you are yawning so you can put your arm around the girl LOL

As an old lady(!), I remember the days when there was someone from the cinema there to keep an eye on things, and not some kid having a lark with his mates. Anyone making a noise in any way was asked to leave. Happy days... Most people now don't even seem to know that you're not supposed to talk never mind eat a pile of foul smelling 'food'.

@ CAMBER - Ah yes... The good old days of Intervals, Ushers and the floor being so sticky that you leave your shoes behind when you leave. :D

All the cinema's need to do is educate the cinema goers on proper etiquette during the film.

To the original poster - if you go at a quiet time I would imagine that it would be a lot more enjoyable than peak time...

The only time i've actually had a crowd noise problem in the cinema was during 'Fracture' a few months ago, some guy was laughing for no reason (i'm sure he wasn't even watching the film tbh), some kind gentleman shouted "Shut the F*ck up!" at him though, and he promptly stopped :)

I really enjoy the cinema "experience", there really is nothing quite like seeing a great film on an absolutely huge screen (and by "big" i mean a cinema screen, you can say what you want about your 50' plasma screens, but i'd much prefer to see a film on a cinema screen).

Plus, there is the fact that films like 'Snakes on a Plane' are utter crap on DVD, but when i saw it at the cinemas with that atmosphere, it was great! When Samuel L Jackson finally said that now infamous line the whole crowd clapped and laughed, you can't get that in your living room, lol.

I watch movies on a 103" projection screen from three metres away in my living room, which more or less equates exactly to where I like to sit in cinema in relation to the screen and filling my field of vision. About half way back in the auditorium, to be precise.

50" plasmas? Pah, I spit on 'em!

Cinemas? Pah, I spit on 'em!

The cinemas I go to,do try to teach decent behaviour but it falls upon deaf ears.

I end up going on a Thursday afternoon as it generally more peaceful! I am looking forward to Shrek 3.

I hate popcorn munching behind me especially during quieter bits of a film. It is so irritating and seems to go on forever! Do the things refill themselves automatically!!

I don't think so, popcorn is part of the cinema experience and always will be. Nobody would stop me eating popcorn and if I can still enjoy the movie munching my popcorn and hear all the worRAB then I'm sure the person next to, behind or infront of me (also munching popcorn I'm sure) can as well.

My advice is sit near the front if you can where the sound is loud and its less of an annoyance. The same goes for people talking and mobiles going off. It helps if the film is noisy though.

As long as hot dogs are still allowed, the only time I eat hot dogs is at the cinema and I love them, I always finish mine before the trailers even start so no noise from me.

I think banning food is a bit much, bit i'm all for banning Mobile phones! Surely there must be a way to block signals from entering the cinema building (My college does it in the refectory and library somehow, so it must be possible). It irritates the hell out of me when some chav **** gets their phone out and all i can see out of the corner of my eye is that damn blue glow.

I'm sorry but it is the overpriced munchies that make cinemas wad they are, without them there would be more people out of work !!!

But surely whatever job you have doesn't require you to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? I don't think I'd bother going to the cinema and paying for a ticket if I thought there was a chance of me being called away halfway through the film. Surely it would be eminently more sensible to go to the cinema on your actual days off.

This once happened to me with a film called Six Degrees of Separation. I was on my own! It was quite creepy and I kept moving as I didn't know where to sit! Lovely and quiet though.

I think the food/talking thing is a sad sign of the times. I took a class of primary children to a schools' ballet performance at Covent Garden. I spent ages telling them how to behave before we went-no talking, eating etc. When we were there not only were the other children talking/eating/ going to the loo but so were the teachers!
