Bambi - just seen it for the 1st time! My thoughts

Bambi (1942): 4/5

This wasnt the best early Disney I've seen (classics like Pinocchio and Dumbo are my favourites) but it was still very good. Although maybe a little twee at times (woodland animals in place of recognised characters).
I remembered the famous song "April Showers" and I think this film influenced The Lion King (1994) in many ways, many of the scenes are quite similar (eg the beginning and ending scenes in the film, Bambi finding a mate, the forest fire,

Bambi's mother being shot).

That scene was so sad (although you never actually see it). At one point I thought that

poor Faline had been shot as well

Still a fine film though and a great achievement in 1942.

I always forget how good a film Bambi is.

I think it's sadder than the Lion King, probably because you don't see what happens, so you come to your own conclusions - I know she wa shot but you know what I mean
