ballroom dancing question?

So, I'm about to start training/lessons for ballroom dancing in the hopes to start teaching. I have a lifetime of dance experience, but this will be something new (and yes, I understand how long it will take me to learn to teach)
So, I haven't bought my shoes yet, and I have my first 'lesson' on thursday, what should I wear, etc?
Can I just wear like, warm-ups, or do I have to wear like, a dress? This is totally different from throwing my hair up for pointe class, and wearing ripped up tights, lol.
I just need a little advice on what to expect, and if there is any place I can buy some cheap ballroom shoes, (payless?) I'm trying to keep it under 20 bucks, (I'm broke!)
Thanks for any advice! I literally have no idea what to expect!

Hey that's great that you are starting ballroom!
Ok for shoes im sorry to say for shoes that will have a long life you wont be paying under 100 dollars...Your new school should sell some or be able to give you some names of shops :) You wont need proper shoes for your first lesson so if you have jazz sneakers you can wear them!
I would suggest that you wear comfortable clothing that shows your body so th instructor can see your technique etc. I wouldn't suggest wearing pants but if you don't wear anything tight that will stop you from being able to move.
Because you arent going to be a teacher for a while you will be playing the part as a female so you can wear a skirt there are heaps of great sites on the internet with cheap skirts or you can wear any skirt thats flowing and the right length (short for latin and street latin/long for ballroom and new vougue). It is ok to wear dance pants if you have to but a skirt would be better!

With your hair it doesnt need to be in a ballet bun just if you are doing modern ballroom (as in waltz etc) keep in up off you neck to display a elongated neck. I would suggest tying your hair up so as not to hit your instructor in teh face as i used to!

If you are wearing ballroom shoes i suggest not to wear tights underneath your shoes as they might slide off they are fine if you are wearing latin shoes as the strap will keep your feet in :)

Good luck im sure as you have danced your whole life that you will pick up ballroom pretty well...although it is VERY different to other styles of dance! If you need any more advice add to the question and i will edit my answer :)

Wear what ever you are comfortable in.
Trackies and a tee shirt will be fine
But with the shoes you will probably have to invest in a good pair
Look on the internet and ask other girls in your class where they go their shoes from would be a good start
