ballroom class - only teach choreography?

A lot of ballroom studios, like Fred Astaire, teach all styles of ballroom. Though they may be teaching you a choreography, they should also be teaching you the basic steps for that style you are learning. (You can't do a choreography in ball room without learning the basic steps.)

Give it a try, if you like it stick with it and as you become more advanced you can find a different studio that will help you develop whatever style you like best.
 
I am going to take a beginners ballroom dance class. and i noticed that for most studios, we just learn the dance steps and move on to the next dance. So how will this help me? Should i take ballroom?
