BAFTA 09 Nominations

Strange how in the eyes of GG [and I presume the Oscars] that Kate Winslet is a supporting actress in The Reader, but a lead actress in the Baftas?

I smell another Slumdog homerun, but good for Dev Patel who'd have thought eh? From Skins to AwarRAB ceremonies! Very VERY interesting line up, it's going to be a close night. \o/

Sally Hawkins should have been nominated for Happy Go Lucky, one of the best performances of 2008

Dont agree with the acting nominations for Slumdog Millionaire, good performances but no way near deserving of nominations

no leo di caprio nomination. thought he deserved a nom atleast. though i do think mickey rourke is going to win it at baftas and oscars (3/3!!!)

It's kind of a disgrace that Happy-Go-Lucky & Mike Leigh have been snubbed.

It's an UTTER disgrace that Sally Hawkins has been snubbed. On home turf, too! Apparently she wasn't good enough - but the pro-British bias is curiously in full swing when it comes to Dev Patel, Freida Pinto, Tilda Swinton, The Reader and Kate Winslet.

We get it. Winslet had a good year - but not good enough that she should be hogging two of the Best Actress spots when there have been so many excellent lead actress performances this year. (And Angelina is one of the weaker ones that should be in contention.)

I'll be crushed if this costs Sally an Oscar nomination. :(

(Fortunately I think they take better to optimistic films like HGL over in America - unlike the sour lot over at BAFTA who shun a "happy" film yet go crazy over melodrama and stone-faced-serious stuff like Changeling and The Reader.)

I know it's hit and miss with peoples opinions on this, but I'm glad Heath Ledger got a look in.

I for one really enjoyed his performance and was the only reason I would watch Dark Knight again. And I don't even like the Batman franchise!

I do think they may have done Kate Winselt a disservice by nominating her twice in the same category. It's quite possible that whilst the majority may want to vote for her, the votes for her will be split between her two roles thereby opening it up for someone else to sneak in and win the BAFTA.

I do think that each person should be limited to one nomination per category and if they have produced work of nomination calibre in other films that year then mention that as part of their nomination.

Once again The Wrester is shut out of yet another awarRAB ceremony this time for the freaking Reader! I really don't understand why all the awarRAB ceremonies are so afraid of acknowledging this film beyond a best actor.

The Mike Leigh and Sally Hawkins snub is just as bad- I mean Mamma Mia before Happy Go- Lucky? Mamma Mia is a fun film and all that but it's not really well made in any respect.

Other than that it looks like it It will be Slumdog Millionaire's night which I'm reasonably happy about as my 3rd favorite film of this awarRAB year so far.

I liked Slumdog and can see why so many people love it but really I think it is not worthy of all the awarRAB it is scooping.

And I think Dev Patel being nominated for best actor is a joke. Both he and Freida Pinto were extremely weak imo.

I completely agree!

Wasn't it just such a stunning performance. I only saw the movie over Christmas and am saddened it didn't get more praise, I thought it was wonderful and she was mesmerising in it.
