Badly Behaved Movie Audiences

I suppose I don't blame them. I imagine they can be intimidated. I'm amazed the bigger ones don't have dedicated security officers, they may elsewhere but they don't up here.


This is after you've suffered the indignity of the Box Office not being open (a new Empire policy) meaning you have to queue at the food counter for tickets!:mad:

Thats another argument though! :p
 
The worst I experienced was about 2 years ago on a Friday afternoon. Can't remember the film but it was the day it was released.

Some a-hole chav kept going in and out of the cinema every 20 mins, knocking over his beer bottles on the way and at one point lit up a cigarette.:eek:

I still find going on an afternoon (not during school holidays) is the best time to see a film without teenagers mucking about.
 
They do that at the local Vue, which is annoying because you have to queue up behind people buying disgusting smelling food. On the other hand, the Gate (local arthouse) has no separate box office: you always get your tickets from the bar even if you've booked by phone. Presumably it encourages customers to buy a glass of wine at the same time, which you can't do at the Vue.
 
I should probably clear up but at the Newcastle Empire (formerly Odeon)

During off peak (or whenever the Duty Manager decides its not busy enough) the Box Office is closed, though off peak seems to mean....all the time lately

Your supposed to use the other tills, however most of the time this means queing at food kiosks as other tills aren't closed

Not all the staff at food kiosks can serve you with tickets...and smile into space saying 'would you like popcorn while you wait?' :mad:

Inevitably a massive queue develops and you either miss the start of the film or find they decided to open the Box Office and you end up at the back of the queue

I complained to Empire about this and got an email back saying 'you can use all tillpoints and kiosks now and you can pre-order...(even if those machines are always out of order!')

The place has gone rapidly downhill since Odeon were forced to sell!
 
I think I would have asked him politely to turn his phone off a couple of times, then if he didn't, taken it from him and thrown it out of the exit, or if the exit was out of line of sight, just as far away as I could.
 
I love the cinema and the atmosphere and usually the noise from the screen is enough to drown out msot of the chatter and the noise of people eating.

In my local cinema I don't have much trouble with kiRAB and the like, generally they are well behaved when they are there - our cinema has a total zero tolerance policy to people who disturb others including with phones and chatter.

I never waiver from telling people to be quiet. A couple of weeks ago I was sat in front of an elderly couple watching PS I Love You who felt the need to discuss the film all the way through and moan about even the samllest amount of nudity - I told them to shut up and they did.

Funnily enough if you tell someone off then the rest of the cinema gets behind you. At Juno a couple of weeks ago there were four young girls who answered phones etc for about 10 minutes - I told them to be quiet, they told me to get lost because they had paid too. Several other people then joined in and they went quiet - safety in numbers!

People power! Don't stand (or sit!) for it.
 
Slightly OT, but did you know that if there is nobody supervising at the bit between the box office and the entrance to the screens, the cinema can loose its licence. Maybe you could complain to managment about this to gain their attention to the other problems.
 
Agree totally Marjangles, watching the second Matrix sequel a few years ago there was a chavvy bunch of girls at the back who were on and off the phone for the first 15 minutes of what was already a pretty poor film, I stood up, turned round and told them to "Just shut the F up or get the F out please," and was greeted by sporadic cheering around the theatre, they never made another sound and I felt about ten feet tall!

Popcorn, incidentally, should only ever be sold to punters who have tickets to the likes of Cloverfield or National Treasure (Book of Crap), holders of tickets to films like Juno or No Country For Old Men should be banned from purchasing it.
 
I had this at a concert once,the couple behind me kept talking,eventually I turned round and said,"Excuse me,I paid to listen to her sing,I didn't pay to listen to you talking all night so would you mind being quiet please". The bloke threatened to take me outside so I went and complained to a steward who just told me to move and find an empty seat!



I've had this before as well,a kid two rows in front of me texting and playing with his phone all the way through and paying no attention to the film,and as you say the light from the phone screen was a distraction,why bother going if you're going to do that?
 
I used to only go to the cinema on the first screening on a Saturday or Sunday unless I had a day off work. Despite being the weekend most people would still be in bed. But now my local cinema has made all movies starting before 11 (or maybe 12)
 
I have had similar problems,but I have always made sure i complained the manager and got my money back.

I have had idiots climbing over the seats every five minutes to go to the lavatory. Surely there is no need to go that much?
 
One solution to all this might be to go in the afternoon . I went to a screening of "Sunshine" at 1.30 on a weekday and I was the only one in! Having the whole screening to myself was a bit strange but its one way to become totally absorbed with the viewing. And absolutely no interruptions.
 
This happened recently, we went to see 30 Days of Night at 8pm on a Friday. Everything was fine until 4 chav's walked in 5 mins into the movie, preceeded to laugh and chat there way to a seat and then 2 went back 2-3mins later to get food. Once they had settled they talked all the way through and one answered his mobile during a quite part.

Luckily one bloke stood up and had a right go at them, it must of stunned them as they didnt make a sound for 10mins before all walking out of the screen "this film is shit anyway blah blah blah"

I just tend to go during a weekday now when the kiRAB are at school, its quiet in the day and you'll normally only get a few people in the screens.
 
Mobile users are annoying to me. the light from the phone is so distracting. Why cant these morons take any notice of the big notice displayed on the screen which says "Please switch off your mobile"! Its so simple but a lot of people ignore it. Also constant chattering. if you want a natter go to the pub and leave us cinemagoers in peace!
 
Looks like the annoying problem that began is turning into a epidemic. Ive been the cinema each friday for the past three weeks (No Country for Old Men, Cloverfield & Juno) and each time i had some stupid problem with kiRAB (although they were my age in the case of ncfom).

First time a group of what must have been 10 we playing on their phones (you could he a ring tone silently at one point) and talking etc. Then when the film finishing although they had not been paying attention by talking etc. one said "that was good" :rolleyes:

Second time similar thing again except it was cloverfield and some stupid kiRAB kept shouting "i see the monster!" WE ALL BLOODY SAW IT!!!!!

third time didnt think we would get the problem as we bunked school to go see Juno (thinking that at 1:00 kiRAB would still be in school).......i was wrong. 3 girls talked through the first 30 mins of Juno non stop. To get away we moved to the front, could still hear them. This time my friend complained and the girls shut up for the rest of the movie. :)

I love going to the cinema alot but with each time i go more and more annoyance occurs. Im seeing two films this friday i really hope it doesnt happen again. :)
