I'd start with replacing the plug and see how that goes. Your tank may be shellacked and you might have a problem there. You could try running fresh gas. How's the oil?

I recently let my bike (2002 XR 400) sit for about 10 months and the gas went bad, (duh!). I took it for a ride after changing the gas and it ran but very rough. Is there anything that I can do short of taking it in to have the carb reworked? Octane booster? Carb/fuel injector cleaner? If I replace the plug and have new gas, will that do it?

In my experience the carbs will almost always need to be cleaned out if the gas goes bad, not necessarily rebuilt just cleaned. It really won't be that hard to do it your self just make sure you remember how it goes back together and use the commercial quality carb/parts cleaner to soak the parts in, don't let the rubber gaskets contact this stuff though it will ruin them. If it didn't get too bad you can try running some carb/injector cleaner in your gas and it might help. Octane booster will not help this problem. You may need to clean/replace the plug as mentioned, too.
