hi Neil...........

I could not help but reply to your post. I had ALIF surgery on dec. 16. Was doing great on recovery as far as my back is concerned. Had 2 levels fused. After about the 6-7 day of recovering, I started having bad leg pain. It was just my right leg. I ended up the ER on 3 different occassions. I was given a shot and sent back home the first 2 times. It was determined I was having a bad nerve flare up. It was excrutiating pain. I ended up going back to the ER early monday morning in agony. I was admitted to the hospital and stayed until yesterday evening. I had blood work and x rays done. I was in severe pain and bad shape. Apparently during my surgery, a nerve was nipped. I say this while unsure as they had me so heavily medicated while being told . I was put on heavy narcortics as nothing else was touching the pain. I was also put on lyrica and prednison. I am also on morphine and also another pain med I take for break through pain. Last night was my first night to have a full night sleep without waking up and I woke up feeling good. Hardly no pain. So....you might want to go back to your doc and make sure you have no nerve issue as that can get to be severe pain. I feel for you if the pain is what I was feeling. It was worst than my whole back surgery pain recovery. Let me know how you are doing and good luck on your pain....

Hey there , I had a discectomy about a year and 7 months ago. Just like you described the pain went away for the most part but the cramps and spasms were bad at first . They calmed down since and they come and go from time to time. Look on the bright side , you will most likely have your life back for the most part.
