So I wrote a check to a shopping store for $35 and to another store for $70, I used my Wamu acct when I meant to use my wells fargo acct. My Wamu acct barely had any money in it. I wrote the check on a sunday, on monday I realized "Oh crap! I wrote the check through Wamu!" So on tuesday I went down there to deposit enough money in there. I get there and come to find out they already tried to deposit the check and they set my account back, so I had to pay the bank fees on top of the checks I owed, So I thought everything was fine because I put some extra cash in there, I assumed both checks were taken care of. Come to find out, the bank came up with a million fees to hit me with, so when the checks hit again, I don't think they got paid because the bank took their money first, and they told me I still owed more...overall I paid like $300 in fees! I ended up closing my acct after that (They told me my acct was all paid up and everything is fine). So life goes on...I'm under the assumption everything has been paid for...then 2 months later. I get a letter from the "Orange County bad check restitution program" telling me I have 10 days to pay them $240 dollars plus go to classes or I get charged or something, and I'll have to go to court. So I log into their site, They want to charge me $50 fee, $155 class fee, and the $35 check. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!! HOW DO I FIGHT THIS THING!! On their site it says they do this to stop people from writing bad checks they never meant to pay for. But I did want to pay for it! I TRIED PAYING FOR IT! and I have proof of that on my statement that I kept trying to fix this....How do I get out of this? I don't have $240!! I'll pay the $35 but I can't do $240! I'm already struggling with just rent!
