I am 19 years old. Have been hospitalized several times since I was 2 years old because of my asthma and am prone to pneumonia. Well a few days ago I started coughing alot, and then the cough became very painfull. The next day I felt really sick, had a fever, and was couching up almost grey colored stuff.
So I went to the doctor right away because I didn't want my asthma to act up as well. I was in there for maybe 10 minutes before he diagnosed my with a bad case of bronchitis. that was 2 days ago. He game me some phenergan with codiene for the cough/help sleep and an antibiotic for ten days. fast forward to today. I woke up this morning feeling like someone was standing on my chest (I actually thoguht my puppy was sleeping across it) but she wasn't. Very short of breath and chills. Had a temp of 101.2...I was running low on the cough syrup very early because my puppy jumped up and knocked it out of my hanRAB the first night and almost all of it spilled on me/the floor. today the chest pain is 10 worse, each breath is very painful. And the coughs are enough to drop me to my knees in pain. since I was out of cough medicine I just toughed it out all day.I didn't want to call my doctor and tell him what happened and have him think I just drank the whole bottle at once or something. So I finally called my mom a few hours ago and she called my doctor, He was nice about it and called in another bottle of cough medicine. and then said it is just going to take time. well that's ok..cause I have time to kill..I am just so afraid of this turning into an pneumonia. Because out of the 10 I have had (yes, 10 in 19 years of my life) I have been in the hospital for most of them. And almost didn't survive 2 of them..What do you guys reccomend? Seeing another doctor for a second opinion? I trust my doctor now 100%. He has been following my asthma since I was probably 8 years old and I know he knows how serious it gets sometimes.

sorry for the long post. Just a little worried. Thanks for the replys in advance. The are appreciated!

jd,
Sorry you have gone without a response. I'm 45, but when I was in high school the doctor diagnosed me as an asmathic/bronchitis. Mine was always seasonal; in the spring and fall when the weather changed. Also lived near a river; litterally like 3 blocks! T hink that was alot of the problem. I always used an inhaler. Now that I'm away from it, I rarely have any problems and if I do, maybe for a few hours in the evening or early morning with damp weather; the wheezing.
To get to the point; about 5 years ago I did come down with bronchitis. Tried everything! Inhaler, antibiotics, cough meRAB, etc. Basically had to get over it in time. I coughed non stop for a solid 3 months!! Maybe 2 hours of sleep at a time. I really feel for you. It's miserable. My doctor told me to try hot toddys! But since you are 19, try hot tea and honey. Doesn't cure, but the warmth and the thickness of the honey soothes and honey is to be a natural healant. You can check into that. And for me, cool dry air helped the most!
I do hope someone who suffers as you will respond with some helpful advice. Take care of yourself.
