Im a former US Marine, paid my dues in heavy lifting and line training. I had some scrotum pain thought it was due to my hernia repair. I took it easy for a while. No improvement, went to the VA no help. went to another ER due to pain that brought me to my knees. No help. Followed up the next day at a urologist. After one minute said it was my back..Had an MRI an it was my back pinchiing a nerve. This was over four days looking for an answer just cut the story short. If you feel like you got kicked in the balls get your back checked too!

This is an interesting conversation for me to follow. I have a moderate buldge at L5/S1. I have some pain in my legs and my genitals. I just saw a neurosurgeon who is highly recommended. He says that an L5 buldge couldn't affect my genitals. Is he right? I thought that an L5 issue could affect the siatic nerve, which runs through the pelvic area. Any advice would be appreciated...

usmcdino,

Your right, I have lived with chronic pain since 1988. It begins in the tailbone , then the rectum and finally to the scrotum. The cause is a back problem, spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal.

marlow, I can't disagree with a nero/sur. did he advise what was causing your genital pain ? I do know that 21 years ago I developed pain in my lower back that gradually radiated to my tailbone, the rectum and finally into my genitals. you do have me thinking , could possibly be another med.condition. Thanks GB

George, the neurosurgeon didn't tell me what could be causing the pain the gential region, other than to say to have a MRI of my pelvis, which is a good idea. I'm not so sure he's right about the back, though. I mean, I have a slight herniation at L5, and if I bend over, pick something up, I almost immediately feel a burning in my genitals. I don't know how it can't be not related. Anyway, I'll figure it out. I hope all is well with you. - Marlow

Marlow it's probably word choice at this point with your surgeon. Because L5/S1 does cause genital/groin symptoms and/or cauda equina syndrome. What they probably meant was that your type of bulge or herniation probably wasn't bad enough or in the right spot to cause it. I have a central- medium herniation at L5/S1 and was explained in depth about this problem and also symtpoms to be watching for.

Hey Dino, welcome to the board!

I never had that feeling, personally. :) Wonder why not.

Actually, I just wanted to say thank you for serving our country and helping us to keep our freedom. Bless you!
