backing up in a car help!?

can some one help me on backing up in a car like what to do with the steering wheel in order to get it out of the parked position
 
if it,s straight out then just put it in reverse and hold the wheel straight and after you get all the way out then turn the wheel the opposite way your wanting to go.for instance if you want the front to go to the right then you turn the wheel to the left.
