Back to the Future will be out of date in 5 years!

You've got to remember that there are many different timelines in the films each caused by Marty's actions. After 1950s Biff is given the almanac in BTTF2, Marty (who has already humiliated Biff and trashed his car in the first film's timeline) steals the book. Now if somebody stole a book that could make me billions I would be furious.

Money changes people. I think its acceptable to think Biff's personality would change under the circumstances. Marty pushed Biff over the edge.

I'm almost certain he knew Lorraine's name in the original film. And I don't understand what you mean 'by getting revenge on George'. Without the money (in the first film) he was humiliated by George and made to look like a laughing stock. It was only when he got the money that he was able to regain his confidence, get revenge and kill George. He only did it because he could get away with it, he's power hungry - he owns the police!
 
A lot of what you said is true, but I still don't believe Biff would be that smart, that quick. There is an obvious botching of the character somewhere between the first film and the second. Doc says he made his first betting on a horse race in 1958. At the end of the day, Biff was an idiot, as portrayed in the original, and parts of the sequel. Yes he would eventually figure it out, but let's be honest....

I agree with you there. Biff always was a bit slow and a bit thick. I guess Bob Gale heard the word 'sequel' and saw dollar signs and not 'consistant characterisation' :D

Back on topic, I love the Future scenes. I remember Zemeckis saying he knew predicting the future would make the film outdated so they decided to have some fun - hence hologram Jaws! I actually think they did a great job on a few things. (80s nostalia, 24/7 news culture, end of laserdiscs/DVRAB etc)
 
Yes, that's exactly what I was referring to when I said it wasn't meant to be taken seriously, the 2015 portion of the film.



Biff also didn't even realise Marty had stolen the book the first time until he saw it in his jacket, even after having checked his own pocket. You have out of character moments in the film before this even occurs also, like the meeting I previously mentioned where Biff shouts at Lorraine he is going to marry her someday. Seriously, even taking the new plot points into consideration, it makes no sense. You cannot say Biff went up to her only because he had the book and knew he was going to be rich, I don't buy it for a second. The only thing that could possibly make that sequence any more forced is if Biff literally had the word on A4 paper taped to his backside in big capital letters. There is no point in the original where he acts this way or even implies he wants to marry her because Lorraine obviously meant nothing to him, he just wanted to put his meat hooks on her. The attempted rape scene that follows later supports this. Better still, isn't it incredibly strange how Lorraine has no problem taking Biff down with that simple foot stomp and box to the head when he fondles her? Yet later on she's suddenly become the damsel in distress so that she can be rescued by her beloved George?

Consistent writing.... you gotta love it! :D
 
The only prediction that Back to the future II has got incorrect is the flying cars, and the HoverboarRAB. Some technologies demonstrated in Back to the future have already been exceeded by modern technology

in Back to the future II Doc Brown has a large bulky digital camera with Face recognition technology. That digital camera now would be smaller, have an LCD Screen and be able to record video.

Fingerprint recongition technology exists and is used to lock laptops some doors and mobile phones all the time

Electronic paper exists and is used in consumer products already

There are TV's that exist that can display multiple channels at the same time The only difference between the TV's in back to the future and now is that the TV's in back to the future are some sort of projection device. whereas we have LCD's and plasma TV's now.

Videoconfrencing is shown as an acessible technology to the home user, which to all intents and purposes it is now.

Electronic clothing exists although hasnt caught on as a mainstream fashion accessory

3D technology is shown to have caught on with 3D cinema screen and marty mcfly junior watching his TV with 3D glasses. When you think how much HDTV has progressed in the last five years it is entirely possible that 3D technology will be at the level displayed in back to the future.

Back to the future ironically failed to predict how far computing technology would advance. You do not see a computer in McFly residence. no portable computer and the 'Youre Fired' message is delivered by fax machine. There is some sort of rudimentary id card reader that can send information over a network

When you consider that mobile phones were new technology over in the 1980's the absence of them in back to the future is rather conspicious. I would have seriously thought that BTF would have made a bigger deal with this new communication technology now.
