I've just read some very distubing news! There's talk that Zac Efron could reprise the role of Marty McFly in a remake of Back to the Future. This isn't bad because it'll be Efron, it's bad that it may happen at all!

Should this happen? I say NO!!!!! And if this is just a rumour, do you think that it should ever be made or just left well alone?

Discuss!!

This is just (as usual) a story emerging from nothing. He happened to mention in an interview that he liked sitting in his dad's car, pretending he was Marty McFly. So, of course, this means that film has been greenlit and filming starts next week.

For some reason, every review I've read of his latest film (17 Again I think?) compares Efron to Fox. If it was just one reviewers' opinion then ok, but three or four? To me, that sounRAB more like it was in the distributor's press release. Add to that the above story and I bet someone somewhere has actually said 'Hey, what about a remake of BTTF?'. Personally I can see it happening. I don't think a remake per se would work, as I'm not sure that there's anything fundamental to the story that neeRAB updating to make it contemporary, but a re-working perhaps.

As the original movie and screenplay were set in 1985, the year it was made, it would be absolutely pointless making it 24 years later, as we are no longer in 1985 and only six years away from the future that Marty and Doc travel to in part 2. Still not got hoverboarRAB or flying cars (or pizzas that need rehydrating or 3-dimensional Jaws adverts etc etc etc).

Nor powerlaces or autodry jackets.
This is one of the fallbacks with making a futuristic film.

Anyways, if it were to happen, it would be listed on bttf.com. Last time I heard, the original cast (most of them) were meeting up for some event and there were questions asked about a remake or a 4th but we all knew the answers anyways. No, if you wondering.

Really? I never saw the sequels. All I know is they went back in time in the first film. I'm not especially a fan of it, so I'd be indifferent to any remake or re-working, but if they remade BTTF, and if they remade the sequels, then surely they'd just shift the timeline accordingly, so he'd travel back to 1970 and forward to 2035 (assuming it came out in 2010)? Like I say, I wouldn't watch it on the basis I'm not a fan of the 'original', but I don't think the timeline issue would put anyone off remaking it.

There is no truth in this rumour at all. As all Zac Efron has said is "Growing up, my favourite thing to do was to climb into the car and play Back To the Future. I would pretend I was Marty McFly."

Just because he said that there is suddenly a remake/sequel to Back To The Future starring him happening!

Originally there was never any sequels planned, despite the ending of 1 where Doc returns for Marty.

However due to the success the studios asked for a sequel, only 1 was planned, and if I remember rightly they wanted it to be 1960s but I can't remember why and IIRC they had trouble getting some stuff like cars etc for 60s scenes.

Therefore they went down other ideas and came up with the idea to go 30 years into the future because of the ending of the 1st film.

When penning the storyline they realised that they could split the sequel into 2 parts and the film studios was really happy about this.

Most of that is on the DVD extras

All the above is pointless really, but I think #2 is the best of all of them but this is because I'm interested in all the futuristic films lol.

What is Ironic though, is the 1st film was originally offered to Disney but they felt the storyline was a bit Risqu
