Hi, im new here so please go easy with me!

About 4 years ago I had a bout of lower back spasms over the course of about a year, did physio for 6 months and have remained untroubled for 3 years and do my exercises every day.

Last week was struck down by a spasm while out walking, had to get a lift back home and lay down for about 3 hours with medium to severe pain, eased by heat pack and pain killers, pain completely vanished overnight and have been fine since. Strange thing was on the day I had the spasm I had a very unhappy tummy and was getting shooting pains from anus up through my penis (sorry for the descrpition!) Could they be related and why how did it disappear so quick when prevously took months to get over properly?

Im a bit confused and quite nervous about going out and being hit by it again?

Have you had a full evaluation by your doctor including a CT and MRI? And then if that shows anything a referral to an Orthopedic Spine Surgeon or Neurosurgeon may be needed.

If there's a level of disfunction in the spine, such as a herniated disc or a level being a bit unstable, some movement you don't even realize could cause something to move (disc to move a bit, etc) and then you get the spasms. It's not uncommon for spine problems to cause pain in the genital area. The nerves in the spine transmit signals to various areas of the body. Check out a spine dermatome chart and it will show the area of the body and then indicate which level of the spine is associated wiht that. The nurabness in my leg, which was sciatica, has a typical pattern of where the pain is felt in the leg(s).
