Hi all.... I'm new here so I hope I'm doing this right. Although I've been reading this and different sites for months. I am 13 days post op for L4-L5, L5-S1 fusion and L4-L5 laminectomy, meaning they went in through the front and the back. All of my pre-op pain is gone. I was at a point where I couldn't even stand for more than 10 minutes before my leg and buttock would cramp up, not to mention all the nurabing. Anyway, this was a tough tough surgery. I had a cervical fusion a year and a half ago and this one is much harder.
So many of my questions have been answered already just by reading this and other sites, but I have one I haven't read about yet. How long do these muscle spasms in my back last. The meRAB help of course but they are pretty intense when the meRAB wear off or get close to wearing off. I know its still early, but I go back to work in a 3 weeks and just wondering how I will be feeling then. Although I get up frequently in my job, most of it is accomplished on a computer so there is alot of sitting. Thanks for any responses....

Hi vicki I had this surgery in march of this year where they went in through the front and back it has been 8 and a half months pre op and i still get the spasms in my back really bad. I had L-5 S-1 fused in 2002 and this year it was L-4 ti S-1. I had this surgery cause the fusion in 2002 never took causing my screws to break so they had to go a level up.
I wish you well with your recovery.

Hi tmvincent.... I'm sorry to hear you are still having pain. I actually had a better day today and made it through the whole night without getting up to walk. I did wake up though when all the meRAB wore off, but I just took some more and stayed in bed watching tv. I guess I fell back asleep for a while anyway. My fusion on my neck went very well except for occasional stiffness, which I could probably work on, so I hope this one fuses well also. Thanks for responding and I hope you are having a nice holiday season....

I had fusion on s1-l5, and l5-l4 on 8/3. My discs were totally removed and replaced with cadaver bones wrapped in protein. I have roRAB and screws and incisions front and back. My leg pain is gone, but my back pain is horrible worse than before surgery. I see the surgeon for the first time on Tues. My STD from my job runs out in Oct, and I don't see how I am possibly going to be able to go back to work. I can't sit upright without extreme pain for more than 10 mins even in the brace. Anyone have any luck getting SDI at lest temporarily?
