i have been a smoker for 20years and for the past 2months i have had a
pain which seems to be coming from my left lung,i am 36years old.i had this last year also and had an xray but nothing was found,do you think i have anything to worry about and should i see a doctor again?

Hi John, X rays don't show up all defects in the lungs, High resolution CT scans do though. I think that if you are worried you should go back to your GP and ask for a referral to a resp specialist. These appts are in short supply so the sooner you get on the waiting list the better. I have had to wait 7 weeks for an appt with one- which I think is fairly short waiting time as I have been found to have low oxygen levels with no obvious cause- my X ray was also normal. Sometimes you have to persist with the GP- you are fairly young and they wouldn't expect you to have anything untoward going on in your lungs, but you are a smoker and there are a myriad of diseases which are caused by smoking. Hope you find an answer
