Sorry to hear about your back pain. I'm there myself and have been pretty miserable. Sitting and standing are really tough, but luckily for me, it feels better when I'm laying down. First advice is to see your doctor. They can determine if it's a nerve, disc, or a pulled/torn muscle. They can also recommend which type of doctor to see to help you find a solution to your problem. In the meantime, anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen or aspirin if you're able to take them) help reduce the swelling as does ice. Many like heat as it tenRAB to relax the muscles around the injury but if the pain is due to inflammation, heat will only add to the problem. Try gently stretching the area that's hurting you but don't cause it to hurt. If you're going to use heat, use it prior to stretching and follow with ice. Ice is uncomfortable but it does help reduce the swelling and inflammation. You should really consider seeing a doctor.
