I had a microdiscetomy last year to remove a piece of disc pinching the sciatic nerve. I felt better but had severe nurabness all the way down my leg and into my foot. I was released back to work at a physical job and my back never felt right again. The pain got worse and worse until I got a new MRI but the surgen said I was ok, degenaration and inflamation, no surgery needed. I have recieved 3 spinal injections, and physical therapy and have been off work for three months. Nothing makes me feel better although my back pain isn't constant anymore. My leg hurts agian now and I still have the nurabness, but my heel hurts so bad that I can't walk. A foot DR. said I have RSD, but I think its some kind of nerve damage. What type of Dr. can I go see who will care about my leg and foot, and do some type of test to tell me what's really going on, nopt just what he thinks? Any help would be appreciated... Thanks Dane

My foot and leg get that sore I feel that I need crouches to walk around at the shops and my foot burns and gets that sore I can't put any weight on it. If I go shopping I end up dragging myself behind the trolley. But I know it has nothing to do with my foot. The nerves may be swollen or something but all my pain initially comes down my leg from the compressed nerves in my vertebrae. I have suffered fron back pain for 10 years but the pain started to move down my leg about 18months ago. then into my left foot about 6 months ago. I have seen a neurosurgeon recently after having another MRI and he can see that the nerves have been effected by the collapse of the disc at L5-S1 with it almost completely bone on bone. Also at L4-L5 the disc is damaged and completely dead. So I am having a disc replacement and a fusion at the worst level after separating the vertebrae by about an inch. He told me that will take the pressure off the nerves that pass along side and out of the spaces there. And I have very little space for the nerves to pass out and down my legs.
I know every one is different but maybe you have a similar problem and you really need an MRI and a surgeon or someone qualified to read the results. Maybe yours is not as obvious as mine and has not shown up on a CT scan or X-ray as mine wasn't so obvious earlier on. So persevere and keep pushing for tests and I hope you have someone diagnose you problems. But with it being that bad I wouldn't be ignoring the symptoms as it may cause permanent damage to the nerves,

I would suggest that you find a new doctor as this one doesn't seem to be trying to help. Look for an orthopedic Spine Specialist if you can find one in your area. It does sound like nerve impingement and you may need to have a myelogram and ct scan for it to show up.

Anytime a dr. doesn't follow up on your complaints to try to find out what is wrong, in my opinion, you haev a dr. who doesn't care. I hope you can find someone who will help you.

Please stay in touch.

I Have had severe back pain also and it goes down my left leg into my foot and give me severe pain in the bottom of my foot and my big toe. Believe it or not I do stretches first thing in the morning and again later on in the afternoon, an this seems to help with all the pressure I feel all the time! Wouldn't hurt to try it!

I also have to do hamstring stretches regularly or I can't sleep at night and during the day I can't walk very far. If I have to go to the shops the foot pain gets gradually worse with walking so I have to go really slow and have a bit of a stretch before continuing. I know the stretches pull the sciatic nerves back and forth through the space in the spine so to obviously helps to releave some pressure on to nerve and possibly lubricates the space. I am no doctor but after years of pain you tend to find what works for you. I also have to use heat at night if I have done to much through the day along with the stretch and some meditation and then I can get to sleep (sometimes).

I am an RN with back problems and right hip, leg and foot pain. The pain in your foot is most likely coming from your spine. You need to see a good neurologist! These are few and far between. They could order a EMG nerve conduction to determine if you still have an impingement of a spinal nerve root.

i suffer from disc herniations and tears also i have rsd and vasular damage.. i suggest that you not take one dr,s dx as fact.. seek a neurologist orthopaedic. spine specialst. pt speake with them regarding all of it.. bring test results ask for more tests.. research their answers .. you will need to become your own dr as well.. and keep asking people with equal symptoms... but dont count out rsd as a real diagnosis.. people may not know much about it but it is real and very dangerouse to us because no one knows anything about it... but it does seem to me as what your explaining a spine specialist can answer.. good luck and keep searching for the answer.
