Hi everyone. About 14 months ago I was in a minor car accident sitting in the front passenger seat. We were hit on the front driver's side, I'm not really clear on this... but I think my husband was thrown into my left side.

Right after the accident, I had a burning sensation in my left arm and the left side of my back, did not go to hospital. I went to my Dr. about 6 weeks later because I was having pain and weakness on that side. They did X-rays on my arm, neck, shoulder and spine, could not find any thing wrong. I was doing okay until just before Thanksgiving, I would have a dull achiness in the lower left of my back and shoulder blade area. Now it is getting worse, with a very tender spot on the bottom of my rib cage on that side. Heating paRAB and pain relievers do not seem to help. I have done nothing to aggravate whatever injury I might have.

Sorry this is so long, but my main question is why would it take 14 months for the pain to suddenly get so bad?
Anyone out there have a similar experience? Thanks in advance for any answers or advice, and i will be going back to the Dr.

Well your accident could have been the start of things yet to be by weakening you there, or what you have going on has nothing to do with the accident at all. It will more likely never be known.

It literally doesnt take anything traumatic to set off a spine issue. If you have an unhealthy spine.. it can happen anytime. And you can feel just fine and then boom.. not.

Many on here will tell you they were just standing or sitting, or even laying in bed, when the pain suddenly hit them, and they had no history of issues at all beforehand.

I was in peak physical condition when I inured my spine almost 5 years ago. But I was lifting very heavy furniture that I should not have been for someone of my size and with having previous back issues.

Some of us have bad knees, bad wrists, and some of us just dont have healthy spines. I do not have a healthy spine anymore.

You are doing the right thing by going back to the doctor. I would ask for an MRI to be done, where you did have the accident and had some previous history issues.

let us know how you make out.

Hey there and welcome to the board.

Maybe it's time to get an MRI. While your X-rays may have shown that everything was fine, an X-ray really won't show any soft tissue stuff, like herniated discs.

I had a lot of pain in my shoulder blade and arm from a very minor car accident some years back and the pain didn't start until the day after it happened. It turns out I had two herniated discs in my neck at the tender age of 29. In your case, 14 mos. may seem like a long time, but discs dry out as we age and sometimes minor traumas can push them out of place if they're already headed in that direction.

It's good that you're seeing the doc and I hope you find out what's going on. Also, maybe you could try icing your shoulder and back if heat isn't helping.

Feel better!
