Well I am so new to this site that this is my very first post. I am a 34 yr old female with 2 children (8yrs & 16 months). My first born was killed in a horrible accident in 1998 - which after his birth is when my story begins. I had lower back stiffness as a teenager in high school but after having my son my pain made it hard for me to stay in one position at night sleeping for very long.

So it has been 10 years. 8 yrs ago I had to quit sleeping in the bed because I ended up in the ER for shots to control my pain and found comfort in a recliner. 2 yrs ago I started having neck problems and a stiff right hip. My MRI shows 5 bulging discs (3 in my neck) and (2 in my lower back). The neurologists can't see why I am in so much agony. I was told most people have bulging discs - my PT tells me yes, but not this many.

I am so confused. I do weigh 210 lbs. and over the years my strength has got very bad. I get tired very easily, have many headaches and joint pain.

My symptoms are: pain in the lower back (chronic). Sleeping flat causes excrutiating pain that causes me to not be able to walk, sometimes the pain shoots down through my stiff hip.

Other than weight, any ideas from anyone? Does it sound as if my problem is muscle or something else? I have been told I do not have any nerve impengements.

Thanks:confused:

As far as most people have bulging disks i don't if this is strictly true they are more common in people with back pain and even though some people with bulging disks have no back pain this doesn't mean they wont develope it in the future as disk disease will usually progress over time if not treated.

Doctors can be very blinkered in there treatment of back pain one thing that is very common in people with back pain is postural problems such as abnormal curvature of the spine bulging and ruptured disks are commonly seen in association with postural problems a sign that you may have postural problems is uneven shoulder height ( are your shoulders level when you look in the mirror?)

You might want to find someone who can evaluate you for this type of problem.

Thank you for your info. My PT told me that with the amount of bulging discs she sees how it could be the culprit of my pain. I was very upset when the neurologist told me "I do not know why you are here." Like there was no help for me.

I am in tears, begging for someone to help me and no doctor seems to know what to do for me. I was trying to decide whether or not to keep my appt with a neuro muscular doctor next Wednesday...from what I've been told he's a lot like a PT just a little better.

I am learning to eat better and put exercise in my plans...but I do not think that loosing my weight will fix my pain. I hurt so bad sometimes I can't walk, and my neck pain often times causes the right side of my cheek to go partially nurab.

Thanks for listening and trying to help.
